Review-SD4A425DB-HNY 1/2.8" CMOS 4MP 25x Starlight Auto-tracking MiniPTZ

If I were to get a SD5 (and chances are I won't), I have a spot 5m higher than where the SD1 is. It would be on the corner of the house where the streets meet. Spotter cams wouldn't do me much good and I'd have to have it patrol. Or I'd need two or more of the same PTZ which definitely isn't happening. lol

Great shot, BTW. Going to put the SD1 in B/W tonight. The colour is good but I'd like to see if I can get more detail in the faces.

Believe it or not, the SD1 in B/W was terrible. Played with the settings but the street was way too dark. Went back to colour after an hour.

Something I just tested last night and hadnt thought of before (and its pretty cool), because I use the PTZ for LPR exclusively at night, I originally had it parked as normal at its "Home" Preset #1.
This meant the two spotter cams on either side of the house would tell it to zoom left or right to Preset 3 or 4 depending on the direction of travel of the vehicle as it does during the day.

Preset 1

Preset 3 - Right

Preset 4 Left

It worked extremely well especially at Preset 4 -Left as vehicles have to at least slow down for the turn, and I get a longer capture time as they make the bend.
But on Preset 3 for some cars traveling fast at night, by the time the PTZ swung around to Preset 3-Right and got a focus, I would miss some or at least get less crisp/blurry images.

So I set up a Schedule Task (Time Task) that says:
Between 8:30pm and 6am, park at Preset #3 instead of Preset 1. This way, there is no motion needed for the PTZ to get to the capture point and it already has focus!
(And yes, If it gets called away to the other LPR preset it will return to Preset 3 instead of Preset 1)
It works Great!

Ok just a follow up on this..

1- the Schedule Task works great and if you have a scenario where you'd like the camera to use a different preset as its "home" for a period of time each day its a cool feature.

however....

2- I kinda knew in the back of my head it was too good to be true. While this worked well for the first night or two, it does lose focus and get blurry every once in a while. Cant fight the reality of the camera just not having enough light in my scenario to get a good consistent focus. If I was running a slower shutter or had enough light for color and to get a consistent focus of course it would work fine.

I'm really trying to use it in a way its just not designed for, so no fault of the camera. PTZs aren't the best thing for LPR ;)

So interestingly I'm going back to the way I had it with the spotters activating it both directions. For some reason with it zooming to a preset it is always looking for a focus, and I have just enough light to allow it to find something in the two LPR capture zones. I get 100% in one direction and 90%+ good plates in the other. I can live with that.

Yup it’s all possible because if the low speed and that one street light that gives me just enough for it to find a decent focus.
iI’m running 0-4ms exposure

Forgive me if I missed it ive read this thread twice I think now. What (if anything) was the solution to be able to draw more than 3 tripwires in a single rule? Ive used Firefox and Edge and no joy.

Working on the tearing issue and losing slow walkers today.

I think it has to do with my IVS rules, spotters, and running SMD simultaneously with IVS. I’ve turned off SMD.

will report back

I’ve been using multiple rules. It actually works better for me in this scenario as I’m most concerned with direction.

Problem with zig zig, which I use in a lot of scenes, is you can no longer specify direction as one side of the zig is facing opposite the zag!

Thank yall for the quick replys. I think im going to have to run multiple rules because im on Windows 11 and it seems that Edge running IE mode is the only way that MS lets you run IE:

How to open and use Internet Explorer in Windows 11?

So hopefully we might get a firmware update which will allow full functionality on today's current browsers.

Keeping my eye for stock to get replenished on this camera want to get one for the front now its that good!

Explorer is still there and there are ways to get Explorer again.

The simple way is to change the BHO folder to another name like oldBHO and BAM Explorer is back...and this thread also shows other ways...

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\110.0.1512.48\

Then change BHO to oldBHO or something else and Explorer will open

Looks Like Internet Explorer Died Today

Or this way:

"But I upgraded to Win11" .... yep still available:

Internet Explorer via W11

I'm not going to run IE since we saw earlier that the add-in installs a service running on your machine. Don't think there's any malicious intent but still not going to do it.

Other than using multiple rules, what I've done as a workaround is to first make an "L" for the larger outside HxW extent of the area. Then you can draw more lines within that.

This method is not working on Win 11 for me. Edge still opens up.
