Hello,

First sorry for my bad English -> I'm not a native Speaker.
I'm looking for a Solution to save Records from IP-Cams encrypted.
Normally I use Synology or QNAP NAS as NVR. But in this case Synology and QNAP doesn't provide any possibility to save the records encrypted.

I read something about Blue Iris and Zoneminder but I can't find anything about my request, so hopefully you can help me?

Or do you have also another proposal for my issue?

Thanks a lot
Br, Jonny

Welcome to the forum..if you wish to encrypt the recordings simply run blue iris or any other vms for that matter and encrypt the drive and or pc where the recordings are stored.

or get a NAS that supports encrypted volumes...

beware, this configuration wont recover from a power outage without interaction... they will be waiting for a password to decrypt the volume at boot.. A really good battery backup system is required at minimum.

Depending on your requirements it may be easier to physically secure the video storage in a locking cabinet/cage.

if the encryption key is left plugged into the server all the time there is no point in encrypting the drives, .. I am presuming he is worried about someone grabbing the NVR and using the video as blackmail; especially if its internal cameras with audio. For those physical keys to be secure someone still has to be there to put it in to boot and remove it and safely store it when done.

If this is really a requirement I would get some quality server gear for the storage with ECC RAM, Redundant power supplies and backUPS's.. then put it in a locked cabinet bolted to a foundation in a secured room with a console for inputing the decryption key.. Then I would use cameras that had internal storage and supported using that temporarily while the network storage was unavailable. Monitor the UPS's and send out alerts before the gear has to shut down.

Of course for this level of paranoia the network would be standalone and the cameras would authenticate at the port level... wait this is what I am doing, just not bothering with encrypted storage.. yet :)

Thanks for your quick reply and sorry for my late answer.
The Problem is, I come from Austria and in Austria the law said, If I record anything it must be saved encrypted
The NAS which we used now are not useable for this because, synology can't encrypt their Surveillance Station and with QNAP I can only encrypt a whole Volume.

So my Idea now is to setup a virtual Server and encrypt them with a container like TrueCrypt.
Or anyone has a other Idea. Is there any NVR available which can save records encrypted?

thanks
Jonny

Are you sure about that law? Sounds utterly ridiculous to require video recordings to be encrypted. Maybe if it is some government organization doing the recording, but I don't see how that makes any sense to require ordinary citizens to encrypt all video recordings.
