I just received my first SD49212T and before putting it up I wanted to bench test it.
The camera is constantly emitting a loud humming noise which is significantly louder than the sound when panning. Only tilting is about the same level of noise.
Can this be right? Why would it make any noise when not moving at all?
Can anyone who owns a SD49212T please share their experience? Thank you!

I have the SD49225T-HN. I made a short vid of it PTZing. Does the sound this one makes sound the same as yours?

Thank's a lot for taking the time to record the video. At the end of your video I hear something that I thought is noise from the street. Is that the SD49225?
I recorded the sound of mine (see attached file, extension changed to txt so I could upload).
The sound of mine is audible from 10m away.
The camera will be hanging under the eaves of my roof, in Summer we spend a lot of time right beneath that spot.
My wife is going to shoot me with that kind of noise from above.

I can't get the attachment. I've checked my other cams (not PTZ), I hear the sound on those as well. Those cameras are away from the other one.

I tried to record a video with the cam, but there is no sound at all in the recording. The mic seems to be defect.
When you download my recorded file just remove the extension .txt so it has the extension .wav
Then you should be able to play it.

Does the cam has an internal fan? It sounds like something moving which resonates with the enclosure. But fan without exchange to the outside doesn't make too much sense.

My PTZ has an internal fan and it sounds like that one is your issue. You probably have a bearing on the way out if it is audible from 10m, or possibly it is loose and vibrating. Time to crack that bad boy open and check the fan. Take photos when you do.

ok, will try.
The cam should have built in mic, right?
At least there is a "audio out" cable.

There is not a built-in mic, you have add your own.
Try a different power supply, see if that changes the noise.
Your recording sounds as if you are right on top of the cam while recording. The noise to me isn't much if that's the case.

Thanks for your response. The manual was not clear to me regarding the mic, so I'll attach an external one.
My other Dahua 4x PTZ does not make any noise so this was unsettling . Your confirmation that some level of noise is to be expected is reassuring.

I finally found the time to take the cam apart.

After having a hard time to unscrew one of the screws that was obviously sitting tight in a very bad thread the source of the noise was easily located. Some of the cables where pressed against the fan wheel! After rerouting the cables so they would not run in the air stream and applying a couple of cable straps the sound has significantly dropped.
I have to say that Dahua quality of assembly and quality assurance has much room for improvement.
Thank you all for your support.

Only one issue remains: I am not able to get any sound out of the cam.
I have bought an external mic (12V) and connected it (Audio out).
On the cam's setup page audio is enabled, but neither in BI nor in the cams UI in a browser was I able to pic up any sound.
How do you power your external mics? I used a 12V external power supply.
On my cam the cable with "power in 12V" does not supply any power which would be nice since I would not need any additional power line, but it says "in" after all.
Anyhow, where is the point in powering a cam with POE but then needing a second power supply for a mic?
Any hints are greatly appreciated.

Just seen your post. I don't use the audio channel but I can tell you that the remaining sound from your PTZ when stationary will be coming from its internal switching power supply. I bought two SD492xx, both of which are noisy and is much louder than the sound from the SD59592xx which is almost silent. For my applications, I don't care about the noise but miss not having 1080p on sub stream 2 with the SD492xx.

The mic should be connected to Mic IN, not out.
The cam power in 12v, is NOT meant to provide power to anything.
You can purchase poe splitters that can power an external mic.

@looney2ns I must have been rather thick when I connected the mic to Audio out. It was rather late ...
Thanks for the tip with the POE splitter, that was the missing puzzle piece.
