I would like to know that is it possible to use secondary NVR along with primary NVR for backup on same network in case of theft or damage of primary NVR.

In Dahua world, you can put second NVR and:
  • source stream from cameras (cameras must have enough power to send streams to second NVR),
  • source stream from first NVR (NVR must have enough power & outgoing bandwidth to send streams to second NVR)...

Second option is Dahua specific (HIK don't support this)..

Alternative: You can put SD-cards into cams..
Choose only one from Endurance models (Samsung/SanDisk Endurance) - they are designed to support 24/7 writing for many years..

I have 2 nvrs running at the moment while I slowly migrate from one to the other.
I'm starting to think I might just leave the old one online and have it pull the feeds directly from the cameras (it's already doing that for most of them anyway)

I tried pulling the feeds from one NVR to the other but it would only let me see one camera.

Your NVR company ?
Today only I read somewhere that pulling video feeds directly from primary NVR can be achieved for all cameras by editing the channel number in ADD section of secondary NVR . by default it's set to channel 1 that's why you are only seeing single stream.

Ok thanks, perfect.

The old one is uniarch (unv) the new one is dahua.
To be honest I quite like the uniarch one.
It's a bit under powered (8 ports vs 16 plus bandwidth wise it's too low), but it's got a much better user experience imo.
Certainly their mobile app is better than dmss.
I was trying to find an affordable unv 16 channel NVR to upgrade to but I came across the dahua one for $80 which was too good to turn down.

I'm pretty sure I tried changing channel number and still only got the one camera.
I doubt the old NVR would have the bandwidth to do it anyway.

I'm looking into trying two Dahua NVRs.
Both NVRs have a POE switch built in and is the 10.1.1.xx range for cameras. I will need to change one NVR's IP from 10.1.1.1 to something else.

But is there a way to disable DHCP server on the NVRs? Problem I may have is both NVRs trying to assign IP addresses to cameras.

Make the secondary BI and then simply feed the NVR into BI.

Then learn the power of BI :lmao:

You should be able to change the IP range the internal switch is handing out Under Networking>Switch

Yes, I know how to change the switch gateway IP. But I don't have a setting on my main NVR for disabling DHCP... awaiting to see if my second NVR will have the option.
Otherwise I'll statically assign everything.

Bridge mode? I would think that would prevent it from handing out IP's..

It will then link the poe switch to the nvr wan port and be using whatever DHCP server is on the main network and the cameras will not be on a separated network.
Not necessarily an issue, just something to be aware of.
It's how i run mine.

Right, but he could assign them static IP's
