Setting up Blue Iris....got a couple of questions

Hi,

So finally have got around to pulling my finger out and getting a camera installed. Purchased Dell Optiplex 9020 i5, purchased and installed my first cam from Andy (HDW2231R-ZS) and also installed the demo version of Blue Iris.

All seems to be working well so far and will purchase Blue Iris when I get paid in a couple of days.

I have a couple of questions though:

1. In the Status window there are a couple of errors displayed as follows:


The other thing that concerns me is the entry in the status window that I have highlighted for the server. I'm not sure what this is about.

Finally, I seem to have overallocated hard drive space.......

First question is are you port forwarding anything on you router? That's a BIG no-no! Knowing the basics of you network configuration would help, too. IP range, switch type, router are the basics.

Next is that screen shots are needed of your storage setup and we need to know what size drives are installed.
 
Hopefully I’ve got the correct info here you you. This might be quite a long response. Please let me know if you need any more info.

I’m not sure about port forwarding, but I do have an Emby Server and torrent download ‘Deluge’ on my home PC (not my BI PC). Screen shot of what I think you are after below. I think that Emby and Deluge have set these up as part of their install, I certainly haven’t entered them into the router/modem myself.

Here is a diagram of how I have setup my network. Please note the Emby PC IP address is incorrect in the diagram, it should be 192.168.1.18.

Modem/Router: Billion BiPAC7800NL – I’ve had it for years.

Size of storage hard drive is 2T

Put the stored limit size to 0. You have over allocated by putting 2tb for new AND 2tb for stored. You aren't using stored (you shouldn't be). Set new to 100GB less than the usable space on the hard drive (1762 of the 1862)

Ya beat me to it, Walrus! Stored is probably not needed unless, and until, you actually need to store something long term for evidence, as an example. BI will manage disk space well but does need a little "overhead" because of file sizes so leaving a little free space, typically 10%, is a good idea.

Note that when you set a size limit in BI, the units probably won't match whatever you are reading to learn your hard drive capacity. It takes a little trial and error. Set it close, check the "Clip storage" tab in the status window to see how much you have unallocated, then go back and revise your allocation.

As for the first issue, BI can log your public IP address to the log file as an error (Configured in BI Options > Web server). This is probably what happened. It would be wise to delete that screenshot or blur out the public IP.

Also, just wanted to double check that I have setup the network correctly. Including IP addresses and topology.
