Setting Up Dedicated BI server

I have read few topics here, which has helped me. I wanted to double check before i start setting this up.

My first goal is to make sure that all the devices and connectivity work with out setting up VPN etc . I know it is strongly recommended to set up VPN but before i start fishing cables through my attic I wanted to make sure that the basic set up works or not. Here is what I am thinking, I have 2 NIC's, 1 NIC will have ethernet cable coming from my ATT router feeding into the server and 2nd NIC will have ethernet cable coming from a POE switch . Then I will use BI to set up the camera's, does this make sense? I realize I might have to come back and redo VPN set up but my goal is to first make sure this stuff hangs together.
