Hello,

I want to setup a simple but functional system with 2 or max 3 wireless cameras inside my small garage (~20m2).

I've the internet connection, wireless, NAS, SMTP servers, well... all the storage/lan stuff ready and securely hidden :)

I want to be notified if there is some intrusion inside and want to take some shots if someone crosses the door (maybe with Super Mini 720P)

Wireless will be a plus because there is no tracking between the camera and the switching/storage system (NAS), just in case that alarm events or FTP sync fails.

I've found several cheap cameras <US$70 on eBay with all the features I consider important but I would like to hear your opinions for a cheap but functional option.

All this will be managed with Blue Iris software.

Thanks :)

Welcome to the forum.Dont waste your time with cheap ebay cameras...look at hikvision or dahau....wifi is not recommended...I have never heard of an intruder following cable to find the NVR...there is simply no time...you will probably be better of with using powerline adapers vs wifi..but honestly i would wire it up...
here are some options which have wifi capability. hikvision 2432-iw cube (has a PIR sensor, mic and speaker) 2532-IWS mini dome with built in mic-no speaker (must have W for wifi)
or the DS-2CD2132F-ISW -no mic or speaker, must add your own(must have W for wifi)

Avoid most cheap cameras... Get a hikvision 2032, 2432 or 3332 from $80-$120. Avoid wifi, instead go with POE.

Hello!

Thanks for your quick replies!

About finding the DVR it's a possibility because there is enough time for this since anyone goes inside the garage building for hours.
But yes, cabling the cameras will be done since I don't want wireless issues due to poor wireless chips.

About the cameras, since the main configurations will be set on the Blue Iris software the cheaper ones like Vstarcam, Tenvis or EasyN aren't good enough?

For the price of Hikvision 2032 (eg.) I can buy two cheaper cameras :) anyway 100$US wouldn't be a problem at all.

Thanks for your input

With the cheaper cameras you will get discolored video and the image will not be as good, also with wireless you can lose frames if they are dropped allowing your thief to get away.

also going with a blue iris can be pricy it may make more sense to good with a nvr the same brand name as your cameras

the cost of knowledge you are learning here is worth the extra money for the hikvision or dahua cameras

Blue iris is not going to help you overcome poor image quality...you are WAY better off buying 1 good camera instead of 2 bad ones....

I mean the alarm functions.

I thought the LE was for 2 cameras and not only one :(
60 dollars is cheap for this type of software...you went through a lot of hassle to hide your nvr, what good is it going to do if your image quality is poor?
Your other option is to just by a cameras from a single manufacturer like hikvision or dahua and use their free software..their software uses in camera motion and therefore can run on a pc that is not very powerful..with blue iris, you will need a decent pc-depending on the cameras you are using.

Is there some demo version of Blue Iris?
I would like to test features like SMS/phone Calls. The positive feedback around the motion detection/alarm system pointed me to Blue Iris.

I'm another newbie so let me ask -- cameras such as the DS-2CD2132F-IS support 64GB internal memory cards. Could the memory card in a fairly inaccessible camera mounted up high -- could this preserve enough images to reduce the worry that during a break-in the NVR might be stolen or destroyed?

Yes it can...64gb should last on average 3-7 days or more, depending on how much motion is in the area..I think i have a 32gb in an office cam with lots of movement and it gets a few days worth easy...every location is different though...
