Shouldn't a new HDD be in a Western Digital box?

I just ordered a new HDD off Amazon and it came like this. Seems anyone could seal a used drive in a bag. I removed the packing slip. Sticker with my info blacked out.

Not necessarily. I'd be more concerned if:

1) the conductive plastic bag had been opened
2) The manufactured date is over a year (as that one is).
3) No cusioning cushioning was in place.

I'd log onto the WD warranty page to check its warranty and if you've lost almost a year of the "new" advertised warranty I'd return it....with a complaint if advertised and sold as "new". If never sold but a lot of the warranty has expired a more appropriate term is "unsold."

So purchased from Amazon, but who was the seller? Amazon or a third party vendor? Was it shipped from Amazon or from the third party vendor?

Platinum Micro, Inc. Amazon.com Seller Profile: Platinum Micro, Inc.

I forgot to look at who the seller was prior to purchasing. But it was sealed in that bag, but just wrapped in that bubble wrap as shown in the picture and then put in the box shown. Checking here brings up "No results found" Western Digital Support | Western Digital

Maybe the drives need to be "registered" first, and then you could check "Warranty Coverage Status"

So, I checked my two WD8001PURP drives I purchased in Jan 2022 and got "no results found" as @Oceanslider did... then I went and registered each drive (I did have copies of the online purchase receipts, one from Amazon and one from eBay) ... the drives did then show up under the "Warranty Coverage Status" page. These drives came with a 5-year warranty... the warranty expiration date seems to be 5 years (+1 month) from my purchase dates of 1/26/2022 and 1/15/2022:

Thanks. That make sense. I think however I'm going go with my gut feeling and return this drive. It was just wrapped in that bubble wrap and packed in what looks like a recycled box. I'll seek a HDD sold by Amazon.

Also, I remember now that the drive I got from the eBay seller "bestipsolutions" arrived DOA... had no problem getting the drive replaced by that seller... they shipped the replacement out before I even sent the DOA unit back... I imagine it's not uncommon to get a DOA drive when it's been shipped though the mail... At first, I wasn't sure the drive was even bad which let to my first post here at ipcamtalk:

Is the WD Purple PRO HDD WD8001PURP compatible with the Hikvision DS-7616NI-I2/16P NVR?
