SMTP Error and Alerts

I’m running BI 5 on the latest stable update. About a month ago I stopped getting the text alerts I’ve been using for years. I get an SMTP Error. I am sending text on alert via ATT Text. Is there something I’m doing wrong? I assume thats the case.

Also, I tried setting up App Alerts with BI on my iphone and/or iPad. Neither of those are alerting me. I checked notifications in iOS for BI App and its all turned on. Again, I’m sure its me.

Any suggestions?

Part of it is mobile providers tightening up their SPAM algorithms. Lot's of threads here where people stopped getting text alerts, regardless of the provider.

What your issue looks like now is that you are using an email account that now needs additional "clearance".

If you are using gmail, they just quit allowing "less secure apps" feature to work and you need to either set up OAUTH in BI with the latest updates or use 2-factor verification and create an app password and use that in BI.

Regarding the issue with the BI app, some screenshots are needed. Does it show in the log a push being sent but you are not receiving it? Is the phone set to data or battery saver?

I am using the text option not email, with ATT as my cell provider.

Yes, but in BI, you need to have an email account that sends out the text alerts to ATT as your cell provider....so who is the SMTP email provider in BI settings under email server tab?

When you set up to send you a text alert, you specify which email account sends it...

So your SMTP connection failed means whoever you are using as your email provider has locked down the security of that email server. Without an active email account in BI, it cannot send out emails or SMS messages.

Wow, that was it. So, I use Zoho as my email. Zoho disabled the email I used for the alerts. So, I deleted it and recreated it. Now it all works again.

Thank you very much for the help!
