SSD to HDD recording

I have a small SSD and a big HDD, in order to prevent HDD from spinning 24-7, I have set recording to initially use SSD then pass it on to HDD every hour. I reckon it will take seconds to transfer recording of 3 cameras to HDD. HDD will then wait to receive the next batch after an hour.

Is this a good idea¿ Thanks

My pc is an HP standard workstation pc. So HDD is a standard type I reckon

Couple of things to take into account of your evaluation:

• continuous spinning 24/7 might be less "stressful" for a spinning disk than stopping and starting every hour the engine
• capacity-wise, your SSD disk blocks will be overwritten (in random ways you can't control) in a multitude of way. SSD's are fast, but wear out very fast because they have a "limited" write count.
• how will you "control" your offloaded fragments are still "valid"

Maybe you can setup your system for doing the 24/7 continuous stream on your SSD (still a sad thing though) and only save the "motion clips" on your HDD. So the "interesting" data will wake up the spinned down disk, and only those clips are on the hdd and not on the SSD.

There is a reason why NVR's are equiped with WD Purples and not SSD's.
