First, off... this is a project I've adopted from a retired co-worker and today is my first day dealing with this issue.

I have several locations that have probes. These probes go into truck trailers that have grain in them. The operator is in a building within feet of the probe.
Right now there's a analog camera mounted to the probe that allows the user to make sure they are not going to hit cross bars on the top of the trailer. These analog cameras fail every few months due to several reason.
I would like to get rid of analog and install IP cameras however I've been told that they've tried it before and the lag was bad enough that they couldn't use them.
I'd like to think if I'm connected from the camera to a laptop directly that the lag would be nearly nil.

Anyone have any thoughts? Some photos are attached for your viewing pleasure.

Lag can be 1-3 seconds, depending on networking.
That's with good cams, not inexpensive cams.
I just tested with a Dahua cam that was connected to my network, and the delay was consistently 1 sec.

For a project like this you want something like Dahua CVI will low latency.
