Hi,

In order to catch a criminal, you have to think like one right...?

What happens when i use a chinese-you-buy-it-everywhere green laserlight, and shine it onto a cctv cam?

I think they will go blind?

How do we protect us to that???

You are watching too much tv...they dont even need a laser light, any mask will prevent a camera from making an ID. Most burglars dont even notice the cameras, let alone employ countermeasures.
You should have a good alarm system in addition to any cameras.

Since most people have mult cameras with some type of overlaping coverage I don't think this matters. Unless you have 2 or 3 lasers all pointing perfectly at the cameras as you move this won't matter. Now, there are some videos online that do show black spotting and sensor burns when this happens, however, you again are giving the criminals a little to much credit...

Well.. A cam is not only to recognise someone. It also gives a explanation to what happened, descrition of the car, licence plate, etcetera.
You cant just mask all that.

I actually watch relatively little tv... usually reading all sorts of nerdy forums here and there.. :redface-new:

Credit..? Well, as stated: i like to think like one. Not to be bragging, but lets hope they dont get that smart...

ok, they can wear a mask and walk up to any of your cameras and spray paint it black.
At night with IR, they can simply shine a strong IR light at your cameras. You can go on and on forever.

A friend of mine has analog cams pointed all around his shop and yard. He's told me that he doesn't really care about getting a good facial ID because it's so hard. His cameras are mostly to be able to show the insurance company "Look, there it goes!". I've shown him my setup and I think he's changing his mind about the odds of getting a good face pic as long as they're not wearing masks but showing the cops and insurance adjusters what happened is definitely a large part of having cameras. Even having before pics with smashed cameras hanging from the eaves is useful. Not the best ending but it helps prove what WAS there. Offsite backups are handy if the NVR storage is stolen, even if they're lower-res or older.

As far as camera tampering on residential properties goes, I've never had one of the 6 prowlers I've caught on video even glance at my cameras let alone tamper with them. I have to point out my cameras to visitors as well. Folks generally just don't care or notice. I'm more worried about water damage or accidental basketball hits than malicious damage.

I always turn up with my Hikvision jamming device. Much more fashionable than a mask.

Get a dog too. They're good for the soul and bad for intruders.

I have a dog....

No use in preventing assholes scratch up my car from front to back in the parking lot.... :(

It's true you have to think like a criminal and here is how:

Either get absolutely s@*# faced drunk, or go smoke a fat joint or shoot some heroin.

Most criminals breaking into cars/houses, etc. are pretty stupid on the whole. As the first response mentioned, you give them too much credit. A home camera isn't dealing with bank-vault cracking caliber people. It's deal with meth heads or teenagers who have no sense of the future and cannot think beyond the next 30 minutes of their life.

If you're using a HikScrambler, they sell an adapter to mount to the underside of a drone. Fly in with that, do recon, jam all CCTV nodes, see results.

Joke is okay, but the time one should stop that is way due.... Its getting a tad childish by now. Thought there were more serious guys over here.

C'mon..

Think about it.. Maybe the regular criminal over here is a tad different then yours...
