Hi Folks

I just bought the Tendelux 10 Watt IR illuminator from Amazon.

The question that I got is, how does the IR Illuminator work in regards to turning it off and on?

Is it just a simple on/off switch? If it is just On/Off switch, how are you guys turning it off and on? Do you guys connect it to the smart plug and turn it off and on that way? or Do you manually turn it on and off everyday ?

Thanks

It likely has a photocell (light sensor) that turns it on at dusk, off at dawn. You feed it the 12VDC power at all times.

Thank you for the confirmation.

I have a follow up question. I read the Amazon reviews saying it gets really hot and so hot that you can't touch it?

Is it true?

Thanks

Saw his review but he said it gets "toasty", toasty as in warm to the touch? lol or toasty as in don't touch it will burn lol ;)

Not that hot. It's 10 Watts so that's about it. Plug that thing in and try it. You'll like it. ; )

Should have said above, the photocell is on the back. A little black circle.

Heatsinks are funny devices...they feel warm to the touch and the longer you touch it, it seems the warmer they get...that's because our "touch" is oftentimes keeping it from doing its job, acting like a heat exchanger/radiator.

Based on my painful touching a 7-1/2 watt incandescent bulb, I think it's possible. Depends on how well the case dissipates the 10 watts of heat into the air.

Went out and measured several of mine with a temp gun. They come in at ~77-78 degrees after being on for an hour or so. Ambient temp is about 60 degrees. The one in the pic I painted black but didn't see any difference between the others left white. By feel, I'd call it warm to the touch.

Can you see the IR light with the naked eye?

Thanks for checking the temperature

You're overthinking it.
Once installed, who's going to possibly touch it after dark?
Any IR light illumination is visible if you look for it.
Buy it & try it, if you don't like it send it back.
Obviously someone who wants to see how warm it is.
