Crap Never said? Blanket statement about my own personal feelings about SMD and again starting the thread off about my DVR.. wasn't even related to any one thing or person on this Forum.. it was blanket statement about what i hear and voiced my thoughts about how I feel. Then when added a NVR. Thought geez good point didn't even think to add that extra benefit and again. Just trying to help but I see you all have that covered here and need no help so I am cool with that.. I am good.. Thanks for making others feel welcome.. Understand.. Enjoy..
 
You started the accusations with this thread....at least that is how many well respected members took it despite you saying it wasn't directed at anyone... and then your video took it to the next level...just saying...

Many people find me welcoming and thank me in DM for such...

I shared my experiences with SMD to help others who might not realize its benefits. It was never about attacking anyone, it was about offering an alternative perspective that might help people make better use of their existing equipment. If some took it personally, that was never my intent. The video was simply to show real-world use cases where SMD has helped me capture events that could have been missed. Whether people choose to use it or not is up to them, I just wanted to provide information for those who might benefit from it. If that’s an issue, then maybe the real problem isn’t my post but how some choose to interpret it.
 
Your entire thread was started based on an inaccurate and misapplied understanding/interpretation of the advice being given of where folks here say SMD is bad...

Maybe the real problem isn't about our advice but how YOU choose to interpret it....

We say SMD is bad when someone comes here with too many false triggers with their brand new camera because they are using MD/SMD and we tell them IVS is the better option for that camera for their immediate concern of eliminating false triggers.

You refuse to accept/acknowledge that part and that is why this thread has completely derailed.

Your thread starts with "There are a lot of people out there who say SMD is bad, and unfortunately, that kind of thinking makes others stop using a feature...." Sounds like you are calling people out to me...

Perhaps if the thread was started with "SMD has a place for post video review/scrubbing and let me share with you how I use it" instead of subtle attacking well-respected members here, people wouldn't have jumped into this thread to defend their use of saying SMD is bad and making sure that future members that find this post don't take this thread as they should use SMD for real-time alerts even if their camera has the better IVS option.

We have agreed with you that SMD is a tool in the tool box. I have said "The stuff you are talking about using SMD for after the fact review of video and what not is fine and dandy" ....which it is... and you refuse to acknowledge that.

But it is clear you want the final word and it is clear you refuse to acknowledge you have misapplied where we say SMD is bad and it seems you want to refuse to admit that you use IVS for real time alerts and SMD/VMD as a playback tool...which is exactly the advice we give when asked...

So you will have the final word with your next post as we have made our case for future members pointing out the misinterpretation of advice they will find from well-respected members that find this thread and we won't be posting in this thread anymore....

Meanwhile I will go enjoy your other threads where you are taking apart cameras and making them work with mods/changes to motherboards and stuff...
 
I never said IVS wasn’t a great tool, I simply pointed out that SMD has its own benefits that are often dismissed. This thread was meant to help people see that and decide for themselves how to best use the tools available to them. If some took it as an attack, that was never the intent. Either way, I appreciate the discussion.

By the way, back in August 2024 on a different forum, I actually asked someone why they were trying to use SMD instead of IVS on a higher AI-capable camera than mine. So, if my original post here was somehow calling people out for dismissing SMD, then wouldn’t that also mean I was calling out myself in that other discussion? That’s the definition of a blanket statement, it wasn’t aimed at anyone in particular, just a general observation about how features get written off when they could be useful in the right situations.
 
For SMD, you need to have a dedicated NVR, that's the only gripe; BI for the win for now, lol
