The rumours of my demise have been greatly exaggerated

Good readers,

I have not had a cold beer since Friday. Warm rum and coke is much easier to stomach.

My house has been without power since 11am Friday. The national electrical system failed. As they restarted the power plants, it failed twice again.

One block over, they have electricity so someone has been nice enough to store my meat.

I write this from an archaic 3G connection.

Fortunately, I have a gas supply from the street so I'm able to cook and have hot water.

Must go now. The rum and coke and getting even warmer.

Will write more soon.

Very fitting since rum & Coke = "Cuba libre" !

Been there, well almost 3 days out during the Winter storm of Texas...I know it weighs on you but at least it is not the dead heat of summer...

Grab a book I was always told, haha, good throwing material :)

Think my longest was 2 weeks, should of paid my bill, lol, but was in my youth, girls and booze were more important back then  :screwy:

Just saw here in the states that Amazon, Google, Microsoft are investing in Nuclear power. AI is their push but our grid will not hold up to all the Green Climate push from the Left...

Not much that Google, MS and Amazon and myself can agree on except perhaps the value of nuclear energy.
That said, hopefully no one will be hiring FedEx to transport the waste for proper disposal.

Power came back at our house at 6am. Almost 72 hours without power.

Internet was down from yesterday afternoon until a couple of hours ago. There were protests in a couple places in Havana but all is quiet now.

Water supply from the street came in at 8am and was still on as of an hour ago. We're scheduled for water supply between 4am and 12 noon. My tank on the roof is full and now the cistern is full. If we're careful with the water, the combined 6000 liters would last us 3 weeks. The submersible pump in the cistern pumps 70 liters/me (a about 20 gallons a minute) from the cistern to the elevated tank. Decent considering it's almost a 60 foot head.

Didn't lose much food. Just some fruit I had frozen and forgotten about.

They haven't connected the national grid yet but almost all power plants are running.

Oh, and I love my 5000 lumen flashlight from Amazon. The tallest building is two blocks away.

And the other end of the flashlight is good for "cracking coconuts". Not as good as an old fashioned Maglight with 4 or 6 D batteries but for a rechargeable it will do.

For sure one day you'll be telling us "...not sure why but a 767 tried to land on my roof last night." :winktongue:

Link to that flashlight lol. I need one!

If you want a good made in USA flashlight, then these fit the bill.
I've had a couple of them for a few years now, and very happy with them.
