Thinking out loud:

If this place fails, I wonder how that will impact Andy? He gets a LOT of traffic from this site. Enough that he has several sponsored sales and drawings each year. Wonder if he would be willing to take it over?

@EMPIRETECANDY

A lot of us are IPTC+ members that give some cash every month. With that and ad revenue I am surprised that it would not cover the costs that @wrapter posted.

AI says it costs about $140 for a one time purchase of the forum software and about $50 a year for any upgrades running on a dedicated server like above that allows more control but hosting it will probably need about $70 to $130 depending on the traffic.

Or starting at $650 a year if run on cloud, where Xenoforum takes care of the server and maintenance.

I think there are bandwidth costs as well, depending on traffic...

But I'd be more than glad to pay a monthly fee, I've offered that here but @Mike never responded as to whether there was a financial problem or not...

I don't post here as much anymore because of all the forum issues. I post over on Reddit on the unofficial BI Reddit forum. Also, camera tech isn't changing much. It's the same old cameras coming out from Dahua. I basically recommend the 5442 and the Z12 99% of the time that anyone asks about camera recommendations. Maybe I recommend a 4k-X if someone really wants 4K but those are edge cases. It's just the same information over and over and over.

Agree to a degree.
We do get new info now and then, we discover different ways to solve problems with changing settings or equipment, and we troubleshoot a LOT of problems folks have, daily.

It’s impossible to help much without being able to post screenshots or videos

Agree that much of the new equipment are minor upgrades and a lot focused on low end bells n whistles, which are too complex for the average newb homeowner making it frustrating .

Many of the “new” cameras have been largely disappointing in image quality.

If I don't get An unexpected database error occurred then I go take a leak while I wait for my reply to post.

I have been getting that same error on other websites the past 2 or 3 months and I am a paying member there too

I cannot get past the fact that there are no categories for the BI Reddit forum, like one big file cabinet with no folders, everything thrown in...or am I missing something? :idk:

Dittto.

I joined IPCT just about 4 months after Fenderman started it in 2014....it wouldn't be the end of the world for me if it went bellyup but after 11 years of being here, reading and posting off and on most days I would be VERY sad and slightly pissed for a time. Losing a welcomed routine after that length of time would give me that "ship without a rudder" feeling most likely, at least for a while.

I feel the same way. Its my daily routine, multiple times, with like minded people. It would suck to lose it. I know I mentioned this before, but I was a member on a R/C forum called Runryder.com for many, many years. When President Trump was first elected, my self and others were posting positive items in the 'open' thread about him. Mark Ryder asked me to stop posting, as it was making the advertisers nervous and upset. Even though I did, he still asked me to stop posting on the site completely, so I just left. Was a member for a very long time. I hope this site stays up...but if it doesn't....good people will find an even better path forward.

I remember a prior conversation with suggestions on a solution or other avenue to keep this going. Was a Plan B ever thought of or implemented?
