After four months of running nearly 24/7, my first 4TB WD Purple died. And it did so in style, making metallic shreaks that could make teeth rattle. Afer taking it out of its enclosure, the number of parts that could be heard rattling around was impressive.

After inputting all of my data for an RMA on the WD website, the site refused to accept all of my data.

"Oh, we just took the site down."

More wasted time. You couldn't warn folks?

But the chap on the phone got it organized and within two days I had a 5TB drive (they were out of 4TB) in advance of returning the failed drive to them (and they paid the postage). So far the new one is fine.
