i thought he was making some kind of gang sign at first (0:34) before i full screened the video. Looks like he is doing the whole "im holding the tiny sign in my hand" equivilent of propping up the leaning tower of pisa thing

It's the opposite. A human foot is generally bigger these days. So yeah, 50 ft in the 60's is much shorter than 50 ft today.^^^ I'd say more like 500 ft. than 50.

So do you have two cameras? the zoom in portion is awfully clear. Were you home and manually zoomed in on the guy?

Yes, there are 2 cameras here. The close up camera is one my license plate cameras. He happened to park right in the center of where it is pointed at. I was not watching him when it happened. I noticed later when looking at captures that he was doing something outside the car, but I wasn't sure what until I looked at the LPR camera.
