I always timelapse on many cameras at a frame every 5 or 10 seconds.

This time, with another camera Dahua IPC A46 It recorded, but with each frame being displayed for 10 seconds then the next frame for 10 seconds etc, etc. More like a slideshow than a timelapse.

What might I have done wrong?

This was a recording for that went on for 12 hours

Here are some screencaps, thanks !

If all else fails is there a program which can reverse engineer this and pick a fame every 10 seconds and create the time lapse from this 10 minute slideshow consisting of images lasting 10 seconds each?

Thanks !

I suggest, in first image, change drop-down menu from "continuous" to "periodic"; try initially .05 min (which is 3.0 sec. interval between video) for 5.0 sec. (video length), adjust to suit.

@hdtvjeff , i got to thinking (I know...dangerous, right?)......

If you still wanted a normal, continuous or motion-triggered recording from the same camera, you could "copy" that camera and set up the original as continuous or motion-triggered and file type BVR and set up the copy (known as a "clone") as the time-lapse recording to MP4. That would still be one stream from the cam and so no additional drain on the CPU.
