I remember I had some of these poles laying around that somebody had left me from some old remodelling.

I screwed a small board to the top with just enough room to attach the camera and now I'm able to basically wedge the board/camera against the ceiling, soffit, etc and experiment easily with where to mount the camera without having to drill any holes yet.

Here's a pic testing an inside location. On this particular model of pole, the top plate is a ball/socket that snaps together, so I have a piece of rope just in case it came apart and to hold the network cable to not stress the cameras cable. It's very easy to now move the camera around and try different positions.
