Does anyone have any experience utilizing a Touchscreen monitor like an Elo with an NVR? Typically the older touch screen monitors required specialized software, however many of the newer ones run via standard drivers and over vga and usb connection - both of which the majority of all NVR's have.

My thought process behind this is my NVR is currently mounted in a false cavity in a bathroom closet, however I am considering placing a viewing monitor in the mudroom where our alarm panal is. I'm considering a touchscreen so that I could just control everything from that point vs having to log into it via one of our pc's. It would also allow you to very quickly and easily go full screen for a single camera if you wanted to.c

Just figured it was worth researching as I can run 50ft cables to from the mounting location to the NVR without to much issue. From the short amount of research I've done I can't really find anyone that has attempted to do this so either its not possible, pointless, or not worth the trouble in most peoples minds.

I have used a samsung touch screen monitor, with a hdmi and usb for on screen mouse functions work fine a hik 7608

The only issue you will have would be usb at that distance.

Good to know Whoslooking. I figured an Active USB cable could be used. Most Active Extension/Repeater Cables are available in the 50 - 75' lengths and still support standard data rates of 480Mbps - I would assume these would work in this situation as well. There is also USB over ethernet as an option which I believe can run 125-150'. Both are fairly inexpensive ($10ish on the Ethernet option and I believe $20-$40 on the active repeater cables)
