US Elections (& Politics) :)

It is also the time for the voters to keep a close eye on the doings of their elected officials and to en mass let them know what they expect. Then grow some balls and recall the ones that continue to obstruct. It can work if large groups of people work together.
I'm in an oregon district that just flipped to the dems. The dem that won the seat is a disgusting liberal. The one that lost was a RINO. So for the short term we've lost a 50% bad vote in the house for a 100% bad vote in the house. Short term loss but we flushed out a RINO. Long term, might be a good outcome, might be a bad one. I'm terrible at predictions.

This may sound stupid but I am ok with tariffs,
Liberal Oregon established a "corporate activity tax" a few years ago. It simply a tax on a company's revenue, not profit. It's exactly the same as a tariff and includes USA goods, too. The libs argued that companies would not raise prices because of this tax (which turned out to be a lie, but different subject). My point is that libs love tariffs when they propose it, but hate them when a conservative proposes it. Just another example of having nothing to do with what it is, and everything to do with who proposes it.

As for the tariffs themselves, it's a complicated dance. Raising prices hurts everybody. Protecting jobs helps everybody. Tariffs are a form of sales tax, which has its pros and cons. It's a complicated feedback loop with a very long response time before it approaches stability. Anybody who wants to show a particular statistical result can cherry pick data to support it. It will be just another political football that will be meddled with endlessly, just as with the tax code.

This may sound stupid but I am ok with tariffs, from what I remember when Trump started the tariff war during his first administration, it was more about the availability of goods. I remember appliances were suppose to be harder to get then, not sure since we were not in the market for any then.
Also, when our farmers were selling to China they got hit with China's tariffs who countered Trump's tariffs. I remember Trump helping out our Farmers during that time too.

One of the businesses I remember was Fry's Electronics, I watched our 3 stores in Houston area not restock for Black Friday deals. Their shelfs were half full, the following year they were almost completely empty yet every time I asked their employees they all stated they are not going out of business and the owners are waiting it out on their island. Later, found out that what Fry's did was try to get around the tariffs by having their China goods shipped to Mexico, guess it did not work since they ended up going out of business.

So this was all before the Plandemic, thinking this time will be more the same, more about availability so vendors raises prices. Not like Biden's Inflation where all prices on everything went up.
Hopefully this loop gets closed too

So wasn't Trump's China tariffs more of a leverage move? Barging? I am very ignorant about tariffs...guess I get them mixed up with sanctions...

I am really worried about Trump tapping House Republicans for positions. They are up for reelection every two years. That means that whoever is appointed to replace them, only have about 18 months to make a name for themselves.

That incumbent status will not be there and they are at risk of being replaced by a Dem.
