First post fellas, so be gentle.
I bought a couple empiretech cameras (IPC-T51IR-ZE and IPC-Color4K-T180) and have been playing with them. I've almost posted questions here a few times, but with enough searching and patience, I've been able to find just about all the answers I've needed. Hats off to the regular posters who have contributed so much to help us noobs out, especially @bigredfish, @steve1225, and @wittaj. Thank you so much.
I also bought a dedicated laptop for access to the cameras and NVR, and re-purposed an old but still good Asus router to keep all of this on its own network, separate from my other networks.
Now that I've (almost) got the cams figured out (more the T51IR than the Color4K, but still exploring), I bought an NVR too - the NVR32CH-AI-S2. I'm at the point now where I need to decide where to physically put the NVR.
I have a mechanical equipment room where I have my cable modem and other networking equipment, and I plan to put the router and switch there for easier connection to the internet when I am ready, plus it will be central for all the camera ethernet runs.
But, my office is where my main computer and monitors and NAS are, and it's at the other end of the house.
I had planned on just using the Web interface to the NVR, so it would make sense to mount it in the equipment room with the switch and router. But, I was wondering if I'd regularly need to access the NVR UI using a monitor and mouse connected directly to it, which would suggest keeping it in the office. But that would mean another loooong ethernet run through my ceilings from the eq room to the offce, which I will do if I have to, but would prefer to avoid.
So, my question to ya'll is - how often do you find yourselves using the local interface of the NVR vs connecting to its web interface?
