I want to provide a second video storage option for my cameras through approximately 170 feet of cat5e.
I am looking for the best solution.
Is it possible to add a hdd from my BI server via a usb to Ethernet to usb adapter? What hardware would be needed?
Network Attached Storage recommendations?
Any other ideas?
Thanks,

What will you be using it for? Redundant recording? Transferring everything daily as a secondary backup?

Knowing this will determine the type of drive, whether a 24/7 write like a WD Purple or just A regular drive HDD.

USB should only be a max of 5m. Not entirely sure how the Ethernet adapters would work at that distance.

Can your cameras take an SD card? Might be the cheap and easy solution.

If it was me it would be some form of NAS or an old PC with hard drives. How are you going to control the hard drives getting full and clearing them down
