Where is the recording to take place - NVR or MicroSD card in the camera?

In regards to storage schedule and event type, what would you recommend i do? because i also feel that's where am getting it wrong.

This depends on what your requirements are, what you hope to achieve, and on the capabilities of the (unspecified) cameras and (unspecified) NVR.
You probably need to configure smart events, such as Line Crossing and / or Intrusion detection, and configure the NVR to record 'Events' in the storage schedule settings.
