Viewing events with continuous recording enabled

I have 2x Hikvision DS-2CD2142FWD-I cameras. My goal with these is simple: have reliable notifications and review of people/objects on my front and back porches at home. Reliable to me means push notifications that can be accessed quickly on my phone and the ability to review events in the past.

I think I have the first part mostly cracked. I've got the cameras running through a trial of sighthound which works quite well. I also have hikconnect configured and it seems to do a decent job notifying on line crossing detection. Face detection appears to not work at all however.

The issue I have is with review. I have both cameras set to record continuously so I don't miss any potentially important stuff. This is all fine and good except there appears to be no way to review events while continuous recording is enabled. This seems like such basic functionality that either hikvision is crazy not to have it or I am missing something obvious.

With continuous recording enabled the playback section of the web interface and the mobile app(s) is just a solid line. No indicator of when events occurred. The only way I can find to review events is to turn off continuous recording and then record only on motion/alarm, which I don't want to do. What am I missing here?

The firmware has had this feature for quite a while.
To see motion marking on a continuous recording playback line in the web GUI -
Have the playback in single camera view.
Have the playback playing.
Click the 'swizzler' at the bottom left and select the 'Motion' icon.

**edit** I made the (incorrect) assumption this was for a Hikvision NVR, misled by the mention 'hikvision is crazy not to have it'.

I don't have an NVR, just 2 cameras. It appears the ability to view events with continuous recording on is missing from the cameras. Hard to believe they missed that obvious use case! I just set up blue iris which should give me more flexibility but I'll have to see how it goes avoiding false positive motion events from car headlights etc.
