I have 2 ptz8111w's cabled to an Ethernet switch. 2 laptaps plugged into the same switch and the switch itself runs to the network/wall. Although these are surveillance cameras, this arrangement is designed to video, record and stream live, community board and town hall meetings.

I inherited the situation. 20 minutes of explanation/training and boom, I'm the cameraman. It took a while to grok but believe I have an understanding of whats what now. Okay, the problem...

One of the laptops is used to run vidblaster and and ie ustream broadcast session, the other simply to manipulate the cameras for desired angles, close ups etc. The latter one is an older xp box. Using it to reach a camera you open an ie session, plug in the network address of the camera, (first time the camera responds by having you accept and I reckon delivers an activex control (rtspvapgdecodernew2 1.0.0.48), once accepted, an html designed to use and configure the camera opens.

Now attempting to upgrade the laptop to a newer w8.1 model, the same procedure returns the camera html home page however some things are amiss. The live view window in the control camera page is black...no picture, odd thing is the camera does respond, just no picture to guide you. Client settings page is blank. What may be missing, why might this happen, is a start. Is there a problem with 8.1 and the Vivotek ptz8111w interface in general? Or PlugIn in particular?

Any input appreciated. Cheers!

Welcome to the forum. This is probably due to a newer version of IE...check the vivotek website to see if they have a modern plugin or email support..in the interm, this should work..in IE, press f12 you will get the option to use emulation mode...try ie 6,7 or 8 and see if that helps..

Thanks for the direction. It is much appreciated. I'll follow your instructions and see what gives. Don't have the equipment on hand, but I'll report back. Thanks again.

While I have your attention...let me pick your brain a little. Is this how others might go about videoing a small to medium gathering, using surveillance cameras? They are relatively inexpensive, the ptz feature is surely desirable, they are light weight and easy to setup. The seemingly constant refocusing, however so subtle, isn't desirable. I believe it's honing in on motion as a good surveillance ought to however I happen to be recording a town hall. Are there IP cameras that ptz designed for indoor things of the nature I've described?

Cheers!

Are these cameras hardwired or wireless? How many cameras? What is your budget? Are you using the cameras for audio or have a mic someplace?

They do have a wireless capability, hence the 'w'. However I haven't figured that out yet. The boxes are lost, so the software CD and the antennas went with them.

Anyway, there are 2 of them. They get cabled/hard wired to an Ethernet switch. The PCs also go to the switch.

Not sure of the budget. These cost about $400 each. They mount on tripods. If new cameras improved the picture quality they'd likely spring for it.
Say $800-1000 a piece. Using a separate microphone.

Thanks.

Ok, good, you dont want to be using wireless. Do you want small movable cameras or will you per permanently mounting them?

Yes, small, movable is preferred. Sometimes its a different room or building. And times we don't stream, just record and offer on-demand afterwards. PTZ also.

How important is the PTZ? How much zoom do you use? How far are the cameras placed from those being filmed....what is the width of the area that needs to be covered?
You may be able to get away with 3/4 fixed cams which will you better coverage....does vidblaster software allow you to digitally zoom in an out and or pan?

Very. Have setup in 4 different locations so far. The ability to jump from cam to cam and change the picture before returning makes for a more interesting video. It gives the appearance of having more than two cameras. Panning back to the audience and zooming in, back to the speaker or whatever. http://www.vivotek.com/pz81x1w/ what we have. Vidblaster, as far as I know, does not have a dgital zoom or pan ability built in. Fantastic program. Trial version is free but all video will have a Vidblaster banner in the upper righthand corner.

I'm back, Good morning! Thanks to you for your interest and assistance. I haven't gotten much input back from the wall. So I was looking over Blue Iris. Does it handle any IP camera? Vidblaster is like 2 grand, vs BI $50! Vidblaster let's me integrate a Powerpoint presentation, I can trans back and forth from the presenter to PowerPoint slide advancing the slide in step with the presenter. The entire slide becomes the out video until transitioning back to a cam. Guess Vidblaster is designed to be a video studio, not solely a surveillance tool.

To answer your previous questions, we zoom. Close ups are a nice thing to trans to. Cam is 10x1, good enough for our purposes. The board room the cams are pretty much on top of them. Town Hall room is much bigger and is kinda halfed between the bod and the audience...cams about 15-20 feet away but cover about 40.

Thanks.

Blue iris handles pretty much any ip camera...there are a few exceptions...There are some amazing ptz ip cameras that are designed for outdoors that will suit your needs but they are large, bulky and need to be mounted..

if you can figure out a way to mount these on some sort of portable mount it would be a killer setup..
As far as indoor cameras that can be placed on a table take a look at these(it looks like they can be table placed right side up, but i dont know.....https://www.google.com/shopping/pro...X&ei=eTN3VIHgGbTesATX5YAI&sqi=2&ved=0CIABELkk
There might be an easier setup that we are both overlooking..hopefully someone with experience with this type of live stream can chime in...

A peek at a board meeting. You ought to be able to see a cam in the bkgd...here and there. This arrangement works well, the focus auto- adjusting is the main irritant.

And again thanks for your input. I'll stop back to let you know when progress is made. Please reply when you feel you on to something or whatever.
