IMO, 22" too small for 9 cams (3 x 3 grid) unless you're no more than 6 ft. away.
What is your preferred viewing distance? That will determine the size of the monitor.
What will the monitor be connected to? A PC running VMS (like Blue Iris), a NVR or will it be a "smart" Android TV running an app like TinyCam, a not so smart TV with a Firestick running TinyCam or ????

Hi is it a home application, I want to install on wall, I have option to connect direct to my Blue Iris server by HDMI cable or "smart" Android TV running an app like TinyCam.
I reckon it's up to you and how much detail you want to see. You can get refurbished dell monitors for very little money these days, where I come from. (Australia) but in the USA it will probably be cheaper.
For a home, I think it's intrusive to have large monitor with cameras etc but it's up to your own aesthetic sense and taste.

OK...that's good to know.....that detail very well could have been in your original post, IMO.
Now perhaps someone can share their experience with that schema.
I have this setup with HDMI from BI to a 8x1 HDMI splitter then to all the TVs in the house. I also have four 19” monitors that are on 24/7 in our most used/occupied rooms. I have 17 cameras in a 2-up display setup. The two front and back door camera’s take up about 40% of the left side of the screen and you can make out a person from across the room. The other cameras are smaller and you need to get close to see detail. I also have the Auto-Cycle Selected Camera setup so if there is motion on one it 1-ups the camera. This is enough to catch my attention and look closer if needed.
Most difficult part was gaining the wife’s acceptance. But she has come to like being able to glance at a screen to see what’s up if the dog starts barking at something he hears.
It’s also a conversation piece when friends come over. They all make fun of my camera’s but then want help installing some of their own. haha!
