I have Linux Mint 19 on our file server. Quite easy to set-up and maintain, and the best part is that most Linux distros aren't all that fussy about hardware, with high-end GPU's possibly the exception.

My current 'work' machine runs Win 7 which loses support on 20th January next year. When it is no longer manageable, I'll move it to Linux as well.

There's the Blue Iris / Win 10 box as well, but it just sits in the corner and looks at the world.

I was able to update to win 10 pro with win 7 machine using USB MS Media Tool.

I upgraded to the new windows and knock on wood no issues and CPU seems to be down 2-3% which is nice.
