Speaking purely from a technical stand point if this is even remotely true this is impressive. But, I am highly doubtful this new AI can actually determine a specific Asian. Now if they said this camera could identify white, black, Asian I would have some buy in.

But, I have yet to see any kind of analytic that could identify a sub Asian.

Regardless, as others have noted this is truly a sad day for the world where Just because you can do a thing . . . Doesn't mean you should :facepalm:

I am aware of the phrase and its meaning and once again will affirm what I stated. More specifically, Chinese people come in all shapes and sizes. So if we simply say Yellow / Fair skin where there are more than 1.3 billion Chinese.

I don't believe this technology can pick up a person with a high confidence level. Now, if all of these people were 3 feet tall and had a 8" beak. Well, just maybe I could see this working.

Depending upon how well fed a person is and where they reside in China you're going to see round face Asians. Now, if they said these people always wear this hair style, pendant, clothes, etc.

OK, I have some buy in, but from a pure technical stand point of this super duper AI picked up a person simply because they were Uyghur.

Ugyhurs have distinct facial features. If you think AI can’t distinguish them from a crowd...

Moreover, you are skirting the issue at hand by drawing skepticism to Dahua’s claims. Focus

While its true in general terms some regions have a specific look say Amish / Hutterite. The Chinese people have regional Looks but that's hard to translate to be accurate or offering a high level of confidence.

No, its not OK if that is unclear to you . . . As I stated pretty clearly my views are this so called Uyghur tracking does not have the ability at a high confidence level to identify said person.

One more time my comments are about the technology and (IF) its right, because its NOT.

Quit trying to separate ethics from tech.
 
China is the proving ground for whats going to happen here, Lets not forget about 6 years ago about how the Chinese party was learning to block its people from content on the Internet deemed "Inappropriate" to the Chinese state, and Big Tech like google and others were MORE than happy to lend them a hand. Well Its here now and its only a matter of time when anyone wearing a red hat will have their social score go down, heck that already happening now in case anyone other than myself has noticed. Its already here but just in another form of your Internet and Social Media uses.
