I really want to get a doorbell type camera and possible one more to show a street view. We have a lot of trees/shrubs and an odd corner so one one cover both. We recently had a check stolen from our mailbox and besides my regular job, I also was recently appointed to a town government position which can bring around a lot angry people. I really don't want to pay a monthly fee but I'd like to be able tonatore video for a few weeks. Do any of you have a good alternative or recommendation for a system?

Sorry if this is the wrong place

I have more then my share of Doorbell cameras from a few different vendors.. Even had a Ring camera before I gave it away.. All the ones that I kept are not App only even though they do require app to setup.. Once setup they can work with MicroSD, NVR or VMS software on your computer..

Now to be honest what would be best, Using a good Turret camera that offers 2 way audio. One that offers alarm output isn't 100% needed as normally people don't use them correctly anyway lol.. But with a good camera that has 2 way audio you can access via app and talk with the person and they can talk back. Normally will offer a better quality picture then a doorbell camera because if you think about it the doorbell camera is small and have to force a camera into that small package so sensor and lens will not be as great as a good quality camera will be.. Sure it will stand out but normally that is better then trying to be using something in a small form factor.

I built a brick mailbox. Neighbor said it was easy to do. It wasn't. Wired the brick mailbox and put motion sensors and cameras in it. Put a mailbox with a keylock on it.

Used the cameras in the mailbox and cameras in the front of the house. This was before video doorbells.

Neighbors father was a retired bricklayer and did the brick work.
