What the difference between DS-2CD2032-I and DS-2CD2232-I5

I am needing a few more cameras. What is the difference between the DS-2CD2032-I and the DS-2CD2232-I5? Is it just the way it mounts and the IR configuration? Or am I missing something?

These will be mounted under the eave of my house. One pointing to the driveway with a street light. The other across the yard with no light.

Hi Billkater,

Both cameras are bullets but as you may be aware have significant differences in the IR configuration.

DS-2CD2032-I : Mini-bullet, Fixed focus, 3MP, standard individual LEDs arranged in a ring around the lens. Shorter IR range (30metres) as the LEDs are not as powerful as EXIR LEDs. The 0 in 2032 indicates that it is a bullet camera.

DS-2CD2232-I5: Full-size bullet, Fixed focus, 3MP, Dual EXIR LEDs (with 50metres range, hence the 5 at the ned of the model name). The 2 in 2232 indicated that this is a camera equipped with EXIR LEDs.

I went through pretty much the same learning curve as you did, so created a guide that categorises all the Hikvision cameras for easy comparison. It also has an explanation of the naming convention.

The DS-2CD2232-I5 camera will have much better IR illumination but is larger in size. In any case consider adding standalone IR illuminators to add more light to the scene (depends on how large your yard is).

According to the datasheets the 2032 is 60.4 x 76.5 x 138.1mm (Dia x Height x Length) and the DS-2CD2232-I5 is 105×104.8×263.1mm.
So the main difference is in the length and the diameter. You can compare the relative sizes as the datasheets have plan and elevation views.

On a lighter note, spiders prefer the 2032. I have a 2032 and 2232 installed on the same 4 by 4 post, one facing the front of the house the other facing the back of the house. I have to clean webs from the 2032 on a regular basis. The 2232 stays spider free without needing cleaning. The 2032 are definitely spider approved.

My 2032-I is the same, definitely attracts more spiders than the 2132F-IS dome. I have got some spider deterrent sprays, have to test it and see if its any good!
