Just looking for a basic door bell and camera setup but a bit confused how the actual door bell chime integrates with the rest of the camera system?

Define "decent" and define "integration". As always: the answer is: "it depends".
I've got a VTO2000A system ([Review] VTO2000A & VTH1550CH & VTNS1060A Intercom Kit), it was a long journey to install and configure, but once done, I'm very happy with it:
- intercom with touch screen indoor station
- tablet/phone integration
- push notification
- 24/7 (voice & image) recording on Dahua NVR
- did also exist in 2-wire for renovation projects
Main disadvantages:
- not free
- installation (with older firmware) was not easy
- this particular VTO2000A has non-standard POE (hence the VTNS requirements) - later models do not require that VTNS switch anymore. Do check the specifications before acquiring any doorbell
