Hey Peeps,
I'm thoroughly confused on which of these cams suits me better.

My use case:
  • Strong external IR lighting will be provided separately. (something like this Long Range Infrared Spotlight | Jaycar Electronics). Or any recommendations please ;)
  • Camera needs to detect vehicle or human from 5m up to ideally 100m+. It's a gate a the mid point across a long driveway, so both sides of the gate. Probably 30deg angle on each side? That would be the PTZ sweep pattern. I will probably add a 2.8mm Colorvu camera facing each side too. So, Total of 3 cams.
  • Any Camera throws an alarm/Output on detection of people or vehicle which has an IO on a relay that switches on a bunch of flood lights.
  • I call the cops and bust their arse using the high quality video ;) since I have a good image of their face and their vehicle and license plate.

I understand the principle, less MP and more Sensor size = Better quality vision, especially at night. I've shortlisted to these, but, I don't get how these cameras rate to each other considering my needs.
I do definitely need a good level of smart detection though (Vehicles and People).
I'm not so worried on price on these options. Just want the best to suit what I'm trying to do.

Thankyou :)

Normally Id say the 4MP 1/1,8 but the lens on that one is 5.4 mm-135 mm and listed Illumination distances are unrealistic anyway. I always cut them in 1/2 to be safe.
The 2MP lens is 3.95 mm–177.7 mm and almost twice the listed IR distance.

I have this one and love it but honestly I dont use the laser IR as I have enough city light to stay in color at night

Here's me playing with the laser IR on a rainy dark crappy night

Here's a few more examples of the SD6AL433XA-HNR. I recommend spending the few extra $100s, its a great PTZ

More night Laser IR testing
The preschool sign is about 200ft

Distance tracking day and night. Loses subjects at about 500 ft due to obstructions. Note that it can zoom in a lot more on the subject, but you have to balance zoom for tracking ability. Too much zoom and they break track on target.

The camera you suggested, is not available in Australia. I searched the model number on Amazon too and it didn't come up? SD6AL433XA-HNR

I looked at the specs for the IR illuminator you listed. It's a three watt IR with a 60 degree pattern. At the distance you're looking at it won't be much help. I'm using a 30 watt with a 60 degree pattern to light up my back yard. It gets light out to about 220-230 feet, and that's at 10X the power of the one you listed. I'm using the one labeled "blaster" -

External IR
Blaster

Smaller IR

Don't believe the specs on most of the IR illuminators on the internet, especially the range. It's always overstated by a large factor.

I suspect the dealers in Oz are much like those in the States. They don’t carry many of the higher end models or many models at all, and charge 2x what most of us pay.

+1 above on reaching out to @EMPIRETECANDY - we have seen members here from Australia that he has sent to.

He has great customer service. And the 49225 you reference, if you get that, Andy is the only one that has it with auto-track, so if that is important to you, you need to purchase from him.

Andy's cams are Dahua OEM. They come with 2-year warranty. Most electronics either fry in first 30 days or well outside the warranty period. Manufacturers base their warranty on statistics. You are getting the same camera as if you bought from Dahua.

So being oem, do they still have dahua firmware or is it custom?
I use Nx witness, which works well with dahua, but not sure if it's custom firmware?

It is Dahua firmware, except if the camera comes without the Dahua logo, it will say "IP camera" instead of Dahua. And some here with OCD will then flash it with Dahua firmware so that they see Dahua when they log in LOL.

Half of the cameras I have bought from Andy have the Dahua logo and half of them don't - I think it depends on how many he orders.

The firmware is Dahua, written by Dahua. Andy does work with Dahua with new cameras and feedback from users here, wildcat in particular because he can analyze the firmware internally to find problems, and gets "custom" firmware that has been corrected and re-written by Dahua.

Got it. So any new firmware written by dahua, say a release with SMD 3.0, I can load from dahua?
