Which Style Camera for Insect Infested Louisiana, usa ? Bullet, Turret, or Dome ?

We've got LOTS of insects and lizards in this area.
Would one type of camera be easier to keep clean versus another or all about the same? I only need about 5 camera which would be mounted under the eves of a one-story house, easily reachable with a small step ladder.
Suggestions ?

Also, are the metallic housings on the cameras ferrous or non-ferrous? With many days at 100% humidity I'm concerned about rust. Thanks

Most use aluminum and I have not seen a camera rust in years. There are several IP66 cameras that are plastic as well. Bullet or dome... you may prefer bullet as it drops down a bit more than a dome camera would, but dome are less noticeable.

It is said that infrared LEDs attract bugs so you should get cameras that separate the infrared from the lens by some distance. Most popular turret models are like this, with one large infrared LED off to the side instead of a bunch of small LEDs surrounding the lens. However a lot of bug-camera activity (on my camera lenses) is daytime when those infrared LEDs are off anyway so I don't know how much it will matter.

I am personally not a fan of dome cameras. I've had a few and they are often troublesome with their tendency to bleed infrared due to bad contact between the dome cover and the light-stopping foam around the lens.

dont get a camera with a ring of small IR leds around the sensor, get one with one or two offset from the sensor.. bullets/domes tend to get a halo glow from that ring of IR, might not be noticeable today but after age starts to degrade the foam barrier it will become worse and worse.

domes are to be avoided in any locations with direct sun exposure outdoors, the plastic is bound to become cloudy as it ages if it is exposed to Natural UV light.

best bet would be get something that has no IR but is sensitive to IR (has a mechanical ir cut filter, not a fixed one) and then put up your IR offset from the camera so all the bugs and spiders are lured away from your camera.

I like turrets, does not have the dome to cause problems and is usually very sturdy. I worry about people hitting the bullet cameras or covering them. Had someone cover up a camera next to a hot tub with a towel, that was a dahua turret style tho

you should probably have that hot-tub cleaned out now hah..

any place people might want some privacy, and not to become another pornhub clip.. may be subjected to tampering, thats a given heh.. domes would be the best to avoid tampering.. but cant beat a determined person.

I have installed many cameras at my properties, and then look at the footage the next day to see what night footage is and I had spider webs the first night! Literally 7 hours after install, by like 11 PM I have webs in an area that was totally clear before. I have locations over a five state area and some places are worse than others, but in the end I disabled IR on all my cameras. It was the only solution that worked, I would have work orders open on 100-200 cameras A WEEK for spider webs.

Not worth the hassle, no IR on camera, use external IR mounted away form camera or have another light source in general if area is well lit. Turret or bullet will be fine, avoid domes unless indoors or never going to be in night mode.

Have to agree that if you have power in the area run external IR. My personal ones I was lucky to get cat 5 poe to them and no chance of power plug.

Yikes! I'm so lazy I have been known to leave webs on my cams for weeks. It would suck to be obligated to drive out to every camera you ever installed to clean webs off it every day.

Yeah, we did not have it too bad until we got people monitoring all cameras, all night. Then someone was reporting every single web every night so we knew about them. That got old quick, and I made changes to every single IP camera we had to get rid of IR. I have right at 1400 cameras so that took a while, but it was totally worth it.

Huisun Mini PTZ has solved that issue for everyone. Spider web? No problem, just shake it off

Actually used it last night.
Spiderweb kept my camera active all night.

Higher end stuff that does well in low light w/o IR (e.g. Axis and Mobotix) solves the insect problem.

You can also get long lasting commercial insecticide called Talstar-P from Amazon. Use a pump sprayer to hit around the cameras the the spider problem will be reduced for weeks.
