they both have the same IR, the difference lies in the night time capabilities of 2MP and 4MP.. If you need realy good low light performance then get the 2MP, if you want really high detail in day get the 4MP.. pick one, not both.

With triggers and your script skillz @nayr can you make the resolution part of the profile? Get the 4MP. Run it full tilt under day profile and <4MP night. ?

If only it'd be that easy lol.

The 2MP sensor is completly different, first of all it's bigger and also has less noise because less transistors on small space and bigger too.
The low light capabilities are physical.

You can also get the 4MP and if the detail is not good enough at night just put an additional IR blaster next to it :p

lol @cor35vet beat me to the punch, changing a cameras resolution settings wont change its low light capabilities in the least.

w/adequate external lighting the 4MP kicks total butt at night.. but without it, meh..

See the difference +10W of IR can have.. I had a 2MP camera here before the 4MP, it sucked just as hard in total darkness.. probably harder.

this is what makes cheap PTZ's so thrilling at night, they appear to be so badass in the dark is because they have buttloads more IR than any fixed camera.. not a fair comparison to take a 10W device and compare it to a 3W device.

Say it aint so, software can't morph hardware?

I've said it a few times.... good landscape lighting is not only attractive but can be designed with security sense. Good quality LED landscape lights are not cost prohibitive, easy to run.

Yep, just keep them out of the view of the camera. White light shining directly into the cam at night = bad.
