Why 2 different IR LEDS on the IPC-T54IR-ZE-S3?

Ignore the crazy mount or that the beauty plate is removed, but I am having hard time understanding why 2 different LEDs. Does anyone know? Are they different wave length? Also, if they were to be fully disabled and instead an IR blaster was used, would there be any degradation in video quality?

One is for short distances and the other is for longer distances.

Many here use external IR instead of the camera IR, especially those in areas with lots of bugs.
Thanks, that is what I figured. I am now curious what makes one a short range vs a long a range?

No, you can cover them

They are not used for night detection or something like that?
No, they are conventional infrared LED emitters of a specific wavelength that is almost invisible to humans, are of different power output (wattage) and/or lens design depending on beam requirements as needed for varying distances, and which provide illumination to the camera's IR-sensitive sensor at times when ambient visible illumination is inadequate.

Whew......I almost ran out of commas!

Wattage and/or lens design.

Different lens / reflectors..

One give wide beam, second narrow one

It’s very good system which allows to configure very uniform IR lighting for full video frame depending of distance from camera to objects / ground and optical zoom level.

other models should have this
Turret 5442 don’t have this and it’s very bad for IR performances (middle is over exposed, outside areas under exposed)

Sorry but I must pursue this rabbit since you scared it up....

I started a junk drawer in this kitchen when the house was newly built in '06.
It grew until I relocated it to the garage.
I now have a junk garage.
Thinking now about getting a metal outbuilding.
This manic cycle will stop, at least for me, when I cash in and finally leave this spinning orb we call earth.

Junk is like a cancer.....rapid growing and no end in sight....until it overcomes its host. :(

</just kidding!> :p
