I am curious if I can make this computer work for blue iris using a western digital purple sata drive.
I can't tell if it has room for a 3.5 inch hard drive and I don't think I want to run it external.

That is overpriced... Find my recent link to an hp elitedesk for 404 via eBay. It's built better then these consumer machines.

That i5-8500 is more powerful than that older i7

I have been searching Ebay but no luck finding anything under $500.00 that is i5-8500. Maybe I am just using the wrong search terms.

Pricing fluctuates. Just last week there was a seller with 5 or so i5-8500 elitedesk g4's for $404.

Yes you can fit 2 3.5 drives as well as 1 2.5 and two pcie ssds ..
650 is an insane price though.
