Windows 10 EOS (22H2) Oct. 14, 2025

I’m running an older stand alone version of Quickbooks on a Windows 10 PC. I wish I could get it to stop prompting me to upgrade to Windows 11. I only use this PC for Quickbooks and sending out customer invoices.
If it were me I would upgrade to WIN11, while it is still free.

I am telling you guys, this Flyby11 was a breeze to use...

Main caution in using it is that you have to make sure you match the installed language of your WIN10 to the WIN11 you are installing. It defaults to International English, most all of us use English (United States)

To check what language you are using, simply click Windows Button and type language (Language settings) will tell you...

This is the video I followed, there are others out there explaining how to use Flyby11, but this one worked for me...

If you have WIN11 PCs already and are familiar with Windows 11 upgrading will be transparent.

For those on WIN10, Windows 11 is, of course, different. It took me a bit to get use to it. At first I was not crazy about it as with any major Windows new version. But, now that I have all the PCs I use upgraded to WIN11, it makes it easier having them all the same.

My laptop that I use while on the road is a WIN11. I don't really see much difference. Some of the included apps are different, like the snip app and the jpeg viewer.

One thing that I DO NOT LIKE about WIN11 is when I download pictures from my cellphone, iPhone 16, they come across as .HEIC files instead of .jpg files. On my WIN10 machines they come across as .jpg files. Those .HEIC files are really not usable for posting anywhere. Facebook and even IPCAMTALK do not recognize .HEIC files. I have to convert them to .jpg to post. Royal pain in the ass.

My wife's Android phone started saving pictures that way once after an update. I guess at one time Android was going to use it. I have about a 100 pics i need to covert too.
Can you have your Apple phone save your pictures as jpegs? I switch my wife's phone back.

Apparently there are extensions you can download. Guessing in WIN11 too.

Found this:

Hey there! Ah, I've been there before. The HEIC format is a bit of a pain on Windows 10 sometimes, right? Don't worry, I've got a few suggestions for you:

1. Windows Store Extensions: Microsoft has an official extension for HEIC support.
    • Open the Microsoft Store app on your computer.
    • Search for "HEIF Image Extensions" and install it.
    • This should allow you to view HEIC files using the Windows Photos app.
2. Convert Them: If you'd rather just convert those pesky HEIC files to something more manageable (like JPEG), there's a software called "TunesBro HEIC Converter". It's free, and super user-friendly. Just drag and drop your HEIC files into it and convert them to JPG or PNG.

3. Third-Party Viewers: Software like IrfanView or XnView has HEIC support. They're both solid image viewers and handle a ton of formats. Plus, they come with a few more bells and whistles compared to the default Windows Photo Viewer.

4. Online Converters: There are a few online converters that you can use. Simply upload the HEIC file, and they'll convert it for you. However, do be careful with this if your photos are sensitive or personal – you never know for sure how secure these online tools are.

HTH

I have no problem viewing them on WIN 10. The problem is posting them on FB and IPCAMTALK. Won't post .HEIC files.

When I am on the road in the RV, I take pictures with my iPhone. Plug the iPhone into my laptop (WIN11) and drag them to a folder on said laptop. They come over as .HEIC files.

If I do the same thing on my WIN10 boxes, they come over as .jpg files.

So if I want to post a pic on FB while on the road, I have to open the file up in Microsoft Photos and save it as a .jpg file to post on FB or IPCAMTALK.

So is WIN10 converting them when you drag them? Is there an extension installed? Just curious...thinking back, I don't think I had a WIN11 PC back when I found those HEIC files on my wife's phone. I am sure if I dragged them and they ended up as jpgs I would of done them all. Maybe an iPhone conversion of some sort too. Maybe iPhone has a problem with WIN11, or WIN11 with iPhone...

Just thinking out loud...

UPDATE:
So pried my wife's phone from her hands :), the HEIC files on her phone started May 15, 2022 and go to Oct. 27, 2022 (350 pictures), haha, now I know why I just left them, then 2023 we moved. Forgot all about them. One day I will convert them. Bought my new Gaming PC (WIN11) March 2022 so it would of been WIN11 that I connected her phone too.
But I gave her my old Gaming PC (WIN10), the one I just upgraded to WIN11, so maybe I use it, can't remember.

I have a WIN10 laptop, I will connect her phone to see what WIN10 does.

Now you got me real curious...

I connected my wife's Android phone to a freshly installed Windows 10 laptop 22H2 version. File Explorer sees the .HEIC files and when I try to open them it wants me to install a HEVC Video Extension...

I need to find a file converter .HEIC to .JPG that will keep the original filedates and camera info.

Can anyone recommend one? Free one :)

Thanks

I don't know if this will help you...

Within Photos you can simply export the photos you need and choose JPEG as the file format. Within your phone you click the Share button and they will be exported as JPEGs also.
If you don't want to use HEIC format, go to settings on your phone, select Photos and change format to 'Most Compatible'.

Update on the WIN 11 .HEIC format:

Forgot I solved this issue. On my iPhone under Settings/Camera/Formats for 'Camera Capture' I selected 'Most Compatible' rather than 'High Efficiency'. They are now stored as .JPEG files on the iPhone. They will come across as .jpg files on my laptop. Figured this out a couple of months ago. The default is 'High Efficiency'.

I do not know why when I plug my iPhone 16 into my WIN10 box and move the .HEIC files from the phone to the WIN10 Box they get converted to .jpg files. So I still have a lot of .HEIC files on my phone and have sent them to my WIN11 laptop. If I want to use those files for posting to FB, I open them in Photos and then save them as .jpg files.

Today another unqualified WIN10 PC was updated to WIN11. A friend, who has very little computer experience had me help him over the phone. Fun, fun.
So yes even a caveman can do this, lol a Drummer too ;)

The Monitor in the back is upgrading to WIN11:

Well I want to thank you, had you not brought this up I would of forgotten to convert my wife's heic files.

I hope to find a converter that will keep original filename and camera info.

DirectX 12 works on both O/S versions WIN10 & WIN11, it has been around a long time, well prior to DirectX 12 Ultimate, but if DirectX 13 comes out and the latest games support it, hopefully WIN10 will support it. If so, since no more updates to WIN10 after Oct. 2025, you could always manually install it.

With Windows 12 on the horizon, who knows what Microsoft will do. Still rumored MS may go subscription base with their O/Ss like they did with Office.

Gaming: still playing...I have seen zero difference from playing on my WIN10 PC or WIN11 PC, other than the 10 has a slower video card. But in truth my FPS is high on both PCs. Plus, playing FPShooters, I keep my Res. for competition play instead of Max settings. Tips: FOV is very important and I cap my FPS at 120. (Opps, I lied, I guess I use to lower my settings, just checked my WIN11 PC and everything is set to High and Ultra) running a 3080 card. On my 1070 card on the WIN10 PC, I have my graphic setting lowered...not Maxed
Played the Beta of Battlefield 6, like that it is closer to BF3 & 4, still on the fence if I will get it though. I like faster games like COD:Black Ops...but as I age, may have to slow down :) Will definitely be getting BO7

Don't like these new Game prices either, I get that 100s of people develop them, just see the credit list at the end of completing the Campaigns, but to shell out $70-100 for a game? Really? I actually don't jump on when they release, I wait for the sale, which you can still get before the end of the year, you just have to watch for them. I still get to COD Prestige Master by mid-year so I am good. For Non-Gamers, Master opens up all unlocks...which I need all the help I can get at my age, lol But I still got it, not bragging but I am most always in the top 3 at games end. ;)

Speaking of Microsoft subscriptions:

Something tells me AI will not be free in the future. It is free now to get us all hooked on it...hopefully I am wrong...

The last time I played a game on a computer? It was one of those that came with Windows 3.1. And no, I'm not joking.

I like to get my Fight on in the mornings, haha, gets my blood a pumping...not a coffee drinker so this is my wake up java...lol

I usually quit when I am ahead. This was my last game this morning. Only need about 30 minutes of play each day :)

If you guys see this using flyby11 Installer, don't freak out, it is not installing Windows Server, just using the Installer from Windows Server.
