Ok so unjust got a PC with windows 8
And for the life of me I cannot get it to load BI on startup
Either using task manager
Or putting it into the startup folder

Do you have Blue Iris configured to run as a service?

As a service, it should start up automatically, in the background with no visible presence on the system. Though you should see it if you look in the task manager.

I can get it to want to launch in task manager
But a window pops up says I need to be administrator...which I am
It's a brand new pc
I'm the only user and am listed as administrator

Yes, the option is called "Run as a Win32 service".

Just being logged in to an administrator account is not enough anymore. You need to tell Windows to run Blue Iris as an administrator. Go the the properties of your shortcut or the blueiris.exe file itself. Go to the Compatibility tab, and check "Run this program as an administrator" near the bottom.

You should see blueiris.exe in task manager on the details tab. And BI's web interface should also be available, indicating that BI is running.

When it is running in service mode you can start blueiris.exe again manually and this will open the console (the "screen view"). You can even close the console without affecting the service. The service will continue running.
