Worlds First Review - Dahua DH-IPC-HDW5849H-ASE-LED / IPC-Color4K-T - 2.8mm Turret

I'll presume updating firmware via Dahua NVR, then using IE or Firefox for camera settings/resets doesn't cause any problems?
 
I'd love to report that IE cured everything and the Unicorns danced over the rainbows.....but,,,,

Using IE, I defaulted to factory three times. Applied the 2022-09-26 firmware again. Defaulted to factory three more times. Everything seemed fine. I configured everything I needed, conditions, exposure WB, and so on plus added a schedule. Everything looked good. I deliberately saved IVS for last. Just as with Edge as soon as I applied the IVS rule everything in conditions and exposure defaulted back. I have all settings saved as screen caps so it's no big deal to reconfigure but this just should not be happening.

I’ll reach out to you over DM so I can walk through your IVS steps and specifically setup exactly as you did because as I mentioned not seeing any IVS issues at all on these cams. TBH only bug I filed even relating to IVS was around rule trip sensitivity of 2.8T not being sensitive enough in comparison to the other cams in same range. IVS itself though no issues.

is your schedule and settings not reverting issue fixed now though @sebastiantombs ?

Also, if still connected to BI, please remove for test purposes (eliminates all external potential impacts to config), reset and retest cam in standalone through IE and see if that helps in the interim too.

The other settings, schedule WB, BLC/HLC/WDR, illuminator and so on all stayed. Just conditions and exposure changed.

As promised here is the 4K-X (2.8mm) & 4K-T (2.8mm + 3.6mm) revisit video, starting with the day time test. I've added some more features into this one to make things like image quality comparisons a little easier for the viewer. Also since people wanted to see text representation by distance, I have that as well. Until I get a Wildcat T-Shirt printed, this is a simple 8.5"x11" piece of paper with the font size set to 150.

Hope you enjoy the video. Next up will be the night time revisit when I've completed that edit.

I just had the exact same issue after the multiple reboot dance, and uploaded firmware again, all with IE. As I stated somewhere else, this same exact issue still happens with 5442 cams even with the latest firmware once in a blue moon, I reported over a year ago.

Won't know about the schedule change until tomorrow morning.

Also, it still won't play videos saved to the SD card, it just sits.

Thats very strange you see that @looney2ns as I'm not seeing that on the pre-production or production units. I'll grab a quick video (not full blown walk through yet) showing mine in action for reference

First thing I noticed was that the 4K-X (2.8mm) & 4K-T (2.8mm) were not the same focal length. The 4K-T (2.8mm) was about halfway between the 4K-X (2.8mm) and the 4K-T (3.6mm). They must be using different lenses.

At eight feet the 3.6mm is losing sharpness, as you point out.

Finally, the unsharp filter is causing white halos around the black letters. This is not readily apparent elsewhere in the images, but I would probably tone it down a little. But this is just a personal preference.

@quest100 Yes the focal length was the first thing I noticed when looking at the 4K-X vs 4K-T early on. I also noted to Dahua on delivery of the 4K-T, the unsharp piece. The resulting current FW is IMO the best of all worlds (maybe a little biased due to all the time I put into it but staying objective still :)) in that as you said while unsharp can cause a few halos around text, not a dealbreaker and a lot better than before I started working on the FW :)

The other thing to point out is the different SOC's for people that weren't aware, VOLT on 4K-x and Taurus on 4K-T. The 4K-T's are a lot brighter as well as shown in the night video I posted before. I will be working on the night revisit soon and will post that when available. Thanks for your comments and feedback, hope you enjoyed the video

I really like the 4k-T image. I'm thinking of grabbing a 3.6mm and do a little swapping around. Put the 2.8mm 4k-X on my back porch (putting new lighting in the back) and putting the 3.6mm 4k-T in its place.

Am I thinking properly that the 3.6mm 4k-T placed at about 10ft soffit, would be just about perfect seeing down and out?

Really like the long distance clarity on the 4K-T, any idea why it looks sharper than on 4K-X? Wouldn't expect chipset or firmware could make such large difference, is there improvement with the lens? If anything I'd expect they tweaked the F stop to improve the depth of field, but that would make image darker not brighter. Doesn't the sharpen/unsharpen cause loss of detail in the end? There is no option to reduce the sharpening caused by the chipset?

Videos are great as always, quality of production way supercedes the number of potential viewers you can get here on the forum, hope it stays worth your while to keep making them. I would consider using physical distance markers, save some editing time.

In your night videos, when you state 200W LED, is that 200W equivalent or actual consumption for the spotlight?

Well, the 3.6 idea really depends on where you want to focus and what you want to catch. As I showed in the video, approx 16ft is Close Focus Distance on the 3.6 so you would want to install so that your critical capture point aligns with that. Therefore depending what you have the 2.8 (the one you plan on moving) covering today, you may want to re-think and reposition to ensure you are setting yourself up for success. 10ft is high (would prefer to see around 7 to 7.5 feet max if aiming for close up facial detail etc) depending what you want to capture BUT if you are aiming outwards say to a 16ft point and the angle to target allows you to get facial details that are usable (i.e. not shaving off details due to top of head or cap etc) then it can work.

Thanks so much for the kind words and feedback @snoopynb I do appreciate it. Happy to help and hopefully more people find this useful, subscribe and the view count improves :) Trying to capture reviews that I think/hope will assist people in their decisions (residential, small business, enterprise etc) for cams and systems as well as to tackle topics such as ANPR configuration and other key areas to assist in dialing in cameras after the fact. All this in hopes that people know what they should expect and how to make their systems work better for overall improved outputs and performance.

In terms of the 4K-T's, yes there is a difference here in optics being used for sure and the DOF has been improved over the original 5849's. A good example is looking at the 3.6 4K-X vs the 3.6 4K-T, much improved. The processing on the 4K-T camera was TERRIBLE as I showed in my original review when I was filing bugs with Dahua. I'm glad to say they listened to my recommendations on tweaks in code and algorithms and now I think this camera looks a LOT better and IMO is the 4K full color to beat. You can reduce digital sharpening in the menu a little but this is the equivalent really of post-processing. With that said, as I've shown before just a few little tweaks (contrast, sharpness etc) can adjust should you need to for any specific deployment concerns BUT with that said, I think the details captured are good and certainly more than enough for recognition purposes now. Couldn't say that about the original FW and algorithms :).

For the night videos its 250W equivalent and I dial them back to the percentage listed on the test. In the upcoming night revisit for example I keep these at 62.5w equivalent output.

I just picked up this camera today and am super sad:(:(. I saw the posts about focus issues, and it sounds like I have one of the duds?
Everything is out of focus. There's a tree about 20 ft from where I have the camera placed, and the focus is so bad, the branches hanging off of it look like ghosts that you can see through. The same branches are perfectly visible and clear from the camera sitting next to the Dahua. 50+ feet out fences and people walking by look pixelated.

Another thing - out of the box with the default settings, the image was super overexposed. Enabling WDR helped slightly but did some really weird things with the color and the windows of the vehicles in the cameras view. Manually setting the WB helped slightly. I ended up having to reduce the exposure compensation to 13 from the default of 50. I haven't updated the firmware on it, which is currently the 8/26/2022 version.

I'm going to bring the camera home with me tonight to test overnight.

Yeah, the level of detail is great in the new video, compared to the original setup its much improved, hopefully they can minimize the amount of post processing on their upcoming models but overall I'm pleased as it is right now.

Definitely update the firmware (using IE remember) to at least 9/22. This includes the fixes from late August that I worked with Dahua on. Now with that said, if you are truly seeing a focus issue (and its not something simple like you've selected sub-stream instead of main stream etc) then that points more towards HW. Let me know
