Around $40 more than the HIKVISION DS-2CD2087G2-LU , I must say I do still prefer the Web GUI on the Dahua Camera's compared to Hikvision slow interface.

The ONLY difference between the DS-2CD2T87G2-L & DS-2CD2087G2-LU is a Mic on the DS-2CD2087G2-LU but the DS-2CD2T87G2-L has a 40M LED compared to 30M on the DS-2CD2087G2-LU
The DS-2CD2T87G2-L has a much larger body also like the Dahua in this review so for domestic installs the DS-2CD2087G2-LU is more favourable.

But Hikvision remains the same distance 40m with only 2 LED's :)
there is one simple rule.. never trust a chinese company what they claim about leds.. they all claim that their 1w led has 5000 lumen and is true warm light. what you get is white or yellow light with 10 lumen..

no one knows what the beam angle of hiks leds is.. maybe they reach 40m and are complete useless in near field.. who knows !

edit:

also they do not claim it is 40m ... they claim its 60m on DS-2CD2T87G2-L !

  • Illuminator
  • White Light Range 60 m

so i think they use more narrow beam angle, which would fit their focus setting. dahua use more wide angle, which fits their near field focus.
maybe dahua has 2 for near field and 2 for far.

hikvision has an interesting LED-feature on some of their varifocal colorvu cameras... they have also 4 leds... and when you "zoom" in, they change the leds... they have a different beam angle...

Sorry was my typo 60m range on the DS-2CD2T87G2-L. The multi led new Hik looks very interesting as you mentioned. The bin colour of any led is very important and more so the driver used to power it having modified many flashlights my favourite is a Custom Cut down Maglite which started life as a 3 cell D battery halogen light. I cut down re threaded for 1 Cell 3.7V 5000mAh lithium battery and Cree XML LED with a custom 3A Driver which makes a true 1000 lumens and needed a custom 2" solid aluminium heatsink.

It also has a custom reflector and a quality glass front.

Yeah... cob leds (or brand "cree") have anything better when it comes to light efficency and lifetime.. but they are hard to integrate on a pcb. also all cob leds which i used (even them with low watt) needs a heatsink...
i think ip cameras still using smd leds and there will be no change in the near future.

Apologies for the delay but been a busy week dialing in user systems here. Glad to have been able to have helped. My final wrap up of this cam will be coming over next day or 2.

I still don't understand why CCTV companies are fitting warm led's to their products.

I'm guessing its because of the research (I don't believe) that cold light damages your eyes colour vision, which is why all the eskimoes are colour blind as are the clubbers exposed to very intense laser light that's blue in nature. :banghead:

Daylight naturally contains blue and whilst no-one seems to be able to agree on what the colour temp of daylight it, it seems to be between 4500k - 6500k. As 4500k is yellow, I personally regard daylight as being around 6000K.

What is apparent though is that warm leds tend to put a colour cast on your video whilst daylight / cold led's don't. For that reason alone, I prefer daylight colour temps. Common sense says if thats the way we see colour in the day, then that's how we are going ot best recognise footage. Cold LED's being colder also give a less friendly feel which is exactly what you want to portray to an intuder, not a warm welcome home feeling.
