Hi all,

I have a 5442 that I bought from EmpireTech on Amazon.

While looking at the Dahua wiki, I noticed there seems to be a "new Web UI" for some Dahua cameras (DahuaWiki)

My 5442 definitely features what is shown on Dahua's website as "old Web UI", and lists this under Version Information:
Code:
System VersionV2.800.15OG004.0.R, Build Date: 2020-12-03
WEB VersionV3.2.1.948164

Do I need to update my firmware? Thanks.

A common theme around here is don't fix what ain't broke. If the unit is working and meets your needs, in many instances an update breaks what you had working and provides you with something you didn't need or bricks the camera. In most instances, updates are simply security vulnerability patches (usually years after the breach was found), but since we do not give our cameras internet access, the update is useless to us.

Personally, as long as I still have access to IE, I am not updating any camera for the web UI as there is always a chance it could break something that is working in the camera right now.

Since you purchased from Andy, get any firmware updates from him. But, if it's not broke, don't fix it.

Right, that seems like a good strategy. In terms of security fixes, were there any for the 5442s since 2020-12-03?

If your network is setup properly, that's a non-issue. You want to block any camera from contacting the internet.

If you want to update, there are some fix's such as AI improvements and Smart IR fixes.
This is the best version.
V2.840.15OG008.0.R, Build Date: 2022-02-18
Ask Andy for it.
When upgrading, best practices is:
1-set cam back to factory defaults first.
2-Upgrade cam
3-set cam back to factory defaults again.
4-set cam back up from scratch, don't import any saved settings.

Use IE or Chrome with IE tab extension installed.

My Empire sourced 5442 is killing my network and I have no clue why...looks like I need to get in touch with him!
That's not much info to go on.
Camera should be plugged directly into a POE switch, then the POE switch should be plugged into the router.
If using something like BI, the BI pc must also be plugged into the same POE switch as the cameras.
You do not want the camera traffic going through the router.
