I found this guys YouTube channel about a month ago. He is really getting some good video of the current Great White shark population off Southern California.

Most of his filming is off the Malibu area. I think this video he mentions it being further south, probably in northern San Diego area.

He has filmed quite a few close encounters.

I used to see them sport fishing off the coast of Southern Cali. Great Whites seem to know they are the BOSS.
They cruise so majestically! I hate those fish stealing Blues.

I've spent 10s of thousands of hours in the waters off the shoreline in the surf all over California, mostly southern. I have never seen one up close like that in the surf. You just can't see them and don't even know they are there. This group of surfers didn't even have a clue to this shark's presence.

Not sure about the young youtubers assessment. I think possible that the shark detoured because of the other adult surfer close by, possibly. But who knows, the good thing is they are not like in the movie Jaws.
