When people imagine the existential threat of AI, they imagine Cyberdyne gaining awareness and destroying humanity, but that isn't the real threat.

At some point AI and robotics will be so autonomous that robots can build robots. A religion that teaches that all people not of the faith must die would leverage that technology to automate the demise of infidels.

The only counter would be AI that targets the threat.

Humanity may not yet have seen the bloodiest conflict yet, and I see no way to avoid it.
