Hi All

Looking to build a dedicated box, has anyone run a production server with the likes of dual Xeon E5 2660 or there about?

pro cons over a i7 build?

Will have about 30 cams high frame rate

That processor certainly has some passmark horsepower...does it include Intel HD Graphics for BI graphics acceleration?

I do not see that in the specs. With all the horsepower and running 2 I'm not sure it would make a difference. I'm not too familiar with graphics only moving data. Perhaps a graphic person knows better

heres the specs

Yes they are old I have a 2 cpu box here with no use thought I may try it. It does use a ton of electric, 600 watt PS with scsi drives and screaming fans

I have a mix of hiki @ dahua bullet cams and 2 ptz dahua. Would like to run them as close to full frame rate if possible 25 fps. All new cams that I am running at full resolution
Not sure if an i7 has enough. I have 6 cams on an i7 , 16gb mem desktop internally to watch my doggys and its pulling about 33% cpu
Still trying to sort the inner workings and optimization of BI. I'm very new to this

Any suggestions greatly appreciated

I'm running an Intel i7 4790k with 12 cameras. Most of them are 3mp, and I also have a couple 4mp and 5mp cameras. All running at normal frame rates. My CPU consumption runs between 35-45% with Intel Hardware acceleration enabled.

Your running direct-to-disk option on, correct? Also, why the need for the high frame rate? Do you have a contractual obligation that mandates a high frame rate?

No I am not direct to disk processing on the fly :)

No contract here I am just a hobbyist that got hooked on this, I like to run everything flat out but usually blow up like all my cars LOL. No real reason I have dropped my frame rates to 10fps with no issues.
I know I will need to enable d2d to make it work on 1 cpu. Like I said a I have a few old 2 cpu servers here I wanted to try but I think pros and cons is making it more con

:)
