Tech support for the UniFi Switch?

This POE Switch looks very good with 150W total power and other features:

However, I have searched high and low for a contact to the company so I can talk to someone about the unit befor I purchase it, and im not finding any available. Has anyone purchased this equipment or found a way to an actual phone no.?

I use their Unifi access points and find their forum to be pretty helpful when I had questions regarding firmware on their AP's and running the controller on a raspberry pi. Their developers moderate the forum so it might be a good place to start: http://community.ubnt.com/ I see a lot of posts by @nayr and he uses quite a bit of Ubiquiti products as well. Maybe he will respond here too.

post it up on the forums, it costs alot of money to run a call center.. and when your selling enterprise gear to businesses or wireless providers there is little need for it.

my company offers voice support for enterprises and service providers, for a very hefty subscription fee;for end users we offer certifications and training programs, again for a very hefty fee.. we dont sell anything direct (or consumer oriented anymore) so sales inquires go to vendors whom's job it is to know the literature and get the training.

I have spent 20 min trying to figure out how to post anything on the forum as you suggest. I have signed in, and scanned the existing subjects and sub levels, and I'm at a loss. Also, I don't see anywhere where anyone has posted anything on the switch I'm interested in. Am I missing something?

OK, so apparently they are a small company. Why not run a small call center. I take your point but I am reluctant to buy equipment that has no support for their product. What do we do if there is a warranty issue? Or is there no warranty on their products. Hmmmmm

For what its worth, if support is important to you, Zyxel has very good support and its very easy to reach a human who will assist you.

I love the Unifi AP Pro i have, and I agree with you in that customer support could be improved. The controller for the AP has a built-in chat option for help. I was in the same boat prior to my purchase. I wanted answers about their products without having to search their forum and post questions.

I use a 48port 500w Unifi switch on an install. coupled with a USG. Great piece of kit, been running solid for nearly a year!

I am interested in this brand also.have d-link now, and the access points i use are great, but cannot install in sight. These UniFi AC Pro AP units look much better on ceiling in plain sight.

As for the switches, i have on the dgs-1510-28x issues with uplink port freeze. Like 4 times a year the uplink freezes (tested it to isp box, and 2 other d-link switches, happens to all.

Are Ubiquiti switches more reliable/stable ?

If i change access points for new house, i perhaps to to replace the switches also (have to few 10GE ports anyway now)

I am really liking my Edgerouter PoE. I got it because I found it used for $110 and wanted to get the AP Pro. I'm currently out of PoE ports on my Netgear Prosafe so now I'm looking at the unifi PoE 8 port. It is a little more in terms of cost but they offer solid products for a good price. The one thing holding me back is the 16 port gig switch with 8 PoE from Netgear. You can get these for about $80 less and have double the ports. I say all of this because Netgear is just as bad at support. I can call them but they really haven't been helpful and I find the ubiquity community really helpful. Just my $.02

Thanks for that! I'm just trying to decide if I spend the $200 on the Ubiquiti or go with the 8port PoE netgear. The power budget for the netgear is a little low while the ubiquiti will be more than enough. Any thoughts on how to figure out max power a camera consumes when IR is being used?

3W-10W on average for most cameras, 20W-50W for PTZ's.. it'll say in the camera's spec sheet, im currently at ~85W at night, mebe spikes a lil more when ptz's all fire off from an event like mailbox opening.

I was in between on my second switch for my system and i finally bought the 8 port Netgear. However, I bought the one with the POE+ ports and 2 fiber sfp ports. max combined wattage is 150W. max/port is 30W. A bit of an overkill perhaps, but better more than less and i need the fiber port.

I don't think you can go wrong with this switch, a part of the D-Link line which @nayr pointed us to recently. I've been running mine for over a month and not a problem. POE+ and a fast web management interface too...

I've been toying with some network upgrades most likely an edge router lite or usg but routing performance on things like an Asus router running merlin is pretty good too. Getting ready for fiber internet
