Hi, I am new here and trying to rebuild my security camera system at my house. I have a bunch of crap Foscam and Amcrest junk I bought before I found you guys. I've been reading through the forums for a few days and found a ton of great info, thanks all.

I am going with 5x Dahua 2mp Starlight turrets where I need em and maybe recycle the Foscams into some areas that aren't critical.

I am going to go with a refurb i7-6700 Dell for Blue Iris that is highly recommended on here. I keep reading that you can find refurb units with 3 year warranties for 400-500 all day. Everything I have found is about 600 or more.
This is the closest I've come to 500:

Dell Optiplex 7040 MT i7-6700 8GB 500GB DVDRW Radeon R5 340X Win10P 3Yr Warranty

or this but it's SFF
Dell Optiplex 7040 SFF i7-6700 16GB 500GB DVDRW HDMI Windows 10 Pro 3Yr Warranty

Do you guys recommend a specific seller on ebay, or have somewhere else you've been sourcing these comps?

Thanks

ebay has the lowest prices most consistently, but prices and inventory are always in flux. Right now there seem to be fewer deals. Just keep checking there may be better deals in a week or two.

Also check dell and lenovo outlets

You must be thinking of HP, it's worth it to just pay $600 for a refurbished Dell XPS with warranty

The Dell optiplex systems have betterment warranty and support than XPS and can be had for 500 all the time on eBay..paying 600 for XPS is a waste and most of the time does not come with Windows pro...The HP systems are actually better than both the Dells in terms of support and the elitedesk has more hard drive space than optiplex... Paying more money for Dell is silly..

glad someone asked this. I was unable to find them for that price range either. I was also disappointed at the configure your own features on both Dell and HPs web sites. these used to be very capable UIs into their order system. now not so much. Unless i see a good bargain in the next couple of weeks, i will look to build my own with 35W "T" version of an i5 or an i7.

lemee know if you are able to do it cheaper, now a days you don't save any money building a system unless you have very specific requirements, hence I built my firewall from parts off amazon, but I ordered a desktop already together from dell and it just showed up in a box ready to go, all I did was pop an SSD inside and load it up.

How big of a deal is the SFF? I found an Optiplex 5040 for 490 with Windows Pro 10, 500GB SATA (i'll need to add another drive), 8GB ram.

With optiplex it poses a problem because its hard to add a 2.5 ssd drive..you have to try and mount it to the case with double sided velcro...not much room..
Also note the the optiplex tower only houses a single 3.5 and one 2.5 where the elitedesk tower houses 2x3.5 and 1 2.5

not that i am in favor of the optiplex, but the ssd can be in an m.2 form factor with sata interface, if the MB supports it vs a 2.5" form factor.
