IPC-HFW8232E-Z seems dead all of a sudden

So I had the ultra starlight bullet mounted to my test rig along with the starlight turret and was playing around with the turret over the weekend. Decided to plug in the ultra starlight to play around with it and it's totally un-responsive like it's not even powering up, anyone know how to take one of these apart? I did bump it on the roof when I was moving the test rig once but not anywhere close to hard at all so I dunno if something inside was knocked loose or what.

Well, I tried POE and I have a POE splitter that I connected also so it ran power to the other plug instead of the ethernet one. It's so strange it was running fine for like a week so in my livingroom and then i finally go to start testing install locations and nothing. There is 0 damage to the outside of the cam, I barely bumped it on the roof once moving the test rig but no idea if that had anything to do with it. Might try to take it apart when I get home if I can figure out how.

Pie splitters sux, it's not poe. Use standard poe, and 12v on short distance

This camera is right at the very limit of PoE spec w/IR on, technically spec sheet says 13W and PoE is only guaranteed to push 12.95W to the other end of a cable.

Might try your PoE+ Injector you got for your PTZ, mebe its night time and the IR is overloading your cheap PoE PSE

The specs call for poe+ for the reasons stated..

Maybe it's the little cheesy 8 port injector, plans are to buy like a 24 port POE+ switch, any recommendations?

Its HiPoe and GigE, but I paid $100 Shipped for mine

HiPOE is higher than Poe correct? That's pretty awesome, I'll check that bad boy out.

its a big ass midspan/injector, not a switch.. needa still provide that.

it can do 36W per port.. so it should handle anything you can afford

also remember this is a GIgE Camera, and as such its going to be more picky about negotiating a full speed link than a FastEthernet camera.. this camera might expose wiring faults that other cameras wouldent be bothered with.

I didnt find any settings for disabling auto-negotiating and forcing FastEthernet.

I'll be home in 15 minutes to test with POE+, so I'll still need to buy a big switch then too.

I need to learn more about the network side of ip cams - both hardware and the software side Is there a benefit to using a mid-span PoE switch? As I understand you would need patch cables from your Ethernet switch to the mid-span and then run cables from the mid-span to the cams.

You can use any floor switch you want with a midpsan, yeah it has more cabling but you can buy a bulk of prefab patch cables for cheap.. I have all my wiring going into a patch panel, then through the PoE Midspan, and then into my 48p floor switch.. I went this route because a HiPoE 48P GigE floor switch was well out of my budget and I dont have a need for that many powered ports.

Or you can buy those "industrial" 8 channel poe switches from Dahua
Cheap and good. We run all our trainings and presentations on those
