Do you think a good quality external IR like the GJD LT Clarius range will make a 'significant' reduction of motion blur at night?
I am 99% sure that if you use a flood light AND the 8mp Dahua cam you will have no more problems at all.

Honestly I wouldn't hold out much hope, I have plenty of infrared directed in the view of my 5231 from external sources, they simply aren't that sensitive to it especially when the shutter speed is increased, at low shutter speeds they can produce very nice looking images. The better option with this camera is to run lower shutter speeds at night and rely on bright LED floodlight(s) to improve things. Freezing motion at night with IR light is always going to be difficult at anything other than closer distances with relatively slow moving objects, in the past the best results I have seen personally were with high quality analogue box cameras running f1.0 to f1.2 aperture lenses - I believe with megapixel technology and sensors the dusk/night imagery becomes more of a challenge, financially :wow: and otherwise!

I have links of IR Lights I have seen recommended in this thread; check the post linked in my signature.

Edit: Those GJD LT Clarius lights look nice!

Upload text file?

The camera has the ability to display up to 5 lines of text. I'd like to upload the text to the camera. Is there a way of doing that?

I have a personal weather stations and the cameras are recorded using Blue Iris. With the direct to disk recording, the overlays that are set up in BI are not overlaid. So I'd like to upload the text to the camera if that's possible.

Is there a way of doing this and if so, how? I also have some Q-See QCN8004B cameras which I think are rebranded Dahua. Will it work for that camera too?
Thanks

Thanks for the advice. I have attached a night image of my drive way from the camera itself. It's mounted under the eaves but right at the front so no reflection from the eaves. I have pointed the camera down a bit more which then directs the IR more on the moving subject. I did have the camera turned upwards more, which gave amazing night vision of the entire scene, but moving object...well that was no good!

The shutter speed in this pic is 1/60, but because of the IR now pointing directly onto the walking subject the face is not too bad, although still blurred.

Now my question is, if you look at that round mushroom type of tree to the left, what if I installed 2 50w LED flood lights, each is equivalent to 500w halogen, so that's 1000w from under that shrub, and then a bit of light from the flood light already to the left, stuck on the garage, but that's about 10 metres away from entry of drive way.

Would this give a massive improvement? Or will it cause a problem because they will be facing the camera? I could point the flood lights so that they do not directly point upwards towards camera? I don't want to mount them under the eaves of the bungalow where camera is (easy option) because my wife will kill me!!!

Thanks

Thanks for posting the image, shutter speed of 1/60 will still not be enough to freeze motion, I think you need to have minimum 1/250 or ideally between 1/250 and 1/500. You can try increasing the gamma by maybe 10 which will bring out the shadows without introducing much noise. Stick with noise reduction below 10, ideally 5, just dial it down until suitable and no sharpening at all.

Personally I wouldn't be pointing flood lights towards the camera, even if they are offset, you ideally want light from above or behind otherwise the image could suffer. You could add a very small IR light to the left, might be more subtle than a flood light although the latter would be preferable.

I got the camera and I'm impressed about it's quality. Picture, night vision, build quality, the integrated software.. everything was better than I expected. But my comparison point was those cheap plastic toy cameras I've been using before.

Anyway, I don't yet have NVR and while I'm considering NVR options, I would like to use the camera with it's inbuilt web server. I can access it with all browsers. But to see video it requires some kind of plugin installation and although Chrome says it installed the plugin, it's still not showing the video. I got the plugin to work only with IE and Firefox. And I was not able to see picture with mobile phones at all.

Is there a way to see the picture with mobile phone (Android, iOS) without NVR?

You could use gDMSS (Android) or iDMSS (iOS)

You will never get all the features available on a Dahua NVR on a Synology NAS using Surveillance Station. At $50/camera for licensing fees using the Synology, put that into the Dahua NVR and you will get all the functionality built into this camera. Go with the Non-POE NVR and it will be quiet and very reliable. Much more flexibility as compared to the Synology/Qnap setups. For the most part, Dahua knows the integration between software and hardware with their products.

I very much prefer the junction box because it doesn't stick out as much as the PFA137. Also, I can use PVC pipe to protect the wires from the elements. Having something stick out too much especially in a narrow area may make the wall mount less resistant to wind. Architecturally, it can be complicated depending on the different layers of material one has to drill through to secure a mount+camera+pvc.
I have one on each of mine. Makes for a nice space to tuck all the wires into. Don't make the mistake of buying a camera without the proper mount.

Which Dahua nvr are you using.? Which poe switch?
Pros and cons? Are you happy with your setup.?

The junction box can be used as a wall mount as well, right? I noticed the screw-holes in the back, are covered by adhesive (which I believe also acts as a water-proof barrier). Can someone please elaborate on this, thanks :)
